Big Bore kit question!
« on: May 04, 2008, 11:00:55 PM »
I have my bike torn apart right now and I am seriously considering a big bore kit although I am completely ignorant about them, lol.  I saw a couple kits that were a 1298cc kit, and a 1363cc kit.   I don't know if you can use the stock cylinder walls or if you have to get new ones.  I was hoping someone here can tell me.  This is the site http://www.procycle-online.com/bigbore/bbstreet_suz.htm or if anyone knows of anyone that sells them cheaper i'd love to get the site.   Do you need a power commander with it?  what are some of the horse power gains to be expected?  Thanks for the help

you can rebore the stock block to 84mm safely..

you would definitely need some form of fuel management system (eg. power commander)

depending which kit you are going for and what compression ratio, the hp range can be quite different :)

Call APE and purchase a 1397 JE piston and block kit ready to install with your exchange block. APE is a site sponsor and has been in business a long time. :thumb:

It is a pretty straight forward bolt on.

Seeing the power that the new '08's are putting out has got me thinking of going bigger displacement on my 2000. Those 1397 kits are available in compressions of 12:1 and 13:1, are these both ok for the street? No problems with heat or starting issues? Just curious. Thanks!

13:1 will need more battery power.

mine runs fine on the street(13:1) i have a slightly drilled t-stat and i don't ride in heavy traffic.

you will get anywhere from 185-230 hp out of a 1397.  It depends how streetable you want it to be.  Most streetable 1397's get anywhere from 200-215hp with no problems.
