FVance - SCTA/ECTA Busa battery hold down
« on: May 14, 2008, 01:09:56 PM »
Fred, having a hard time getting into LR.com for awhile now, can read it but not sign in or post (seems to lock my computer up... who knows, maybe cause I'm friends with Jack? lol).

At anyrate, here's a couple pics of Deb's. Simple single strap and a couple small thread large head screws tapped into the frame.

BTW, he didn't mention it but we used screws with a #3 phillips head so it would be the same tool to undo the strap & the battery cables.  Now if I can get past the memory of the time at the track having to "pull & throw" a battery to stop an electrical smoldering melt down in progress, now that I have my battery firmly secured to my frame, I'll be ok!

Hey, ya gotta admit that was a pretty light show that night! Not to mention the fun the 2 of our teams had in the mosquito infested trailer all night rewiring the whole bike to run Sunday morning.
These metric bikes are too easy... I'm ready to go back 30-40 years anytime you are baby!
Boo and Boo1AB await in the wings :thumb:

So many classes, so little time! What configuration to try next?   :vl:

Todd & Deb, Thanx you, Thank you, Thank you. I knew there was a simple solution but just had brain lock. :thumb:
John, I just had to run out to the bike and see, there is plenty of room.
Bill, I think the red rag is a Harley thing, no seat just a red rag or two.  :vl:

No problem John, fits tighter because of the bumper of course, but will still fit fine.
I set up her step seat with some frame bumpers as well as a battery bumper when she got it, but she wanted to be more SCTA compliant and decided to go with a strap after last meet.

It's just a rag... the other half of it is under there.

Nah, that's Deb's... mine's a little bigger then hers

She'll tell ya it's not the size... it's how ya use it. But I'm here to tell ya it's not the size or how ya use it... it's what you use it on that matters!

Although this is where she would say, "Yeah, I use mine on a 190+mph Suzuki, and you use yours on a 140mph Harley".

And then I reply with.... Bitch!

If anything it's hiding a mess of wires plugged into my battery. He probably covered it to save me the embarrassment!  (I'm no electrician ya know!  )

Na really tho, everything gets covered with a rag when there's drilling involved. Don't worry, nothing secret going on there, if you even half paid attention then you already know what I'm running! ;)

How's your junk coming Bill? You gonna have the Naked Busa back in running order for the meet?

and Todd, thanks for saving me the typing! It's good when you know the conversation, saves me from talking & typing (but I guess that's why you did it to try to keep me shut up  I guess it didn't work!  )

Now THERE'S a good use of that rag,
Todd

BTW, your wiring may not be the greatest in visual layout when you're in a hurry.. but your wiring diagrams are hard to beat I can tell you that :thumb:

BTW, if you guys and gals ever make it down here to Texas or we hit Bonneville at the same time, Im good for at least one round of the drink of your choice.Speaking of Bonneville, last I heard you were a definite maybe for Speedweek. Anything new about that? Sure would like to see you make it there.

I just added a plate of sheet metal under the stock mounts that extends over the battery, basically just an extention of the stock seat bracket. any comments ?

Fred - We're still a definite maybe for speedweek. We were having logistical issues with the child but her acceptance into the cheerleading squad has helped to alleviate some of the issue. I'll be trying to firm some stuff up next week. We still look like we can swing it but we'll have to do the low budget camp out. We'll be discussing some of it this weekend with some of our fellow ecta racers to see what we can pull off. (we'd be willing to trade the beverages for a hot hotel shower!  )

I'm not sure on this without seeing a picture. I'm not sure if you hooked this to the seat or the frame.
My understanding of the intent of the rule is if you were able to pick the bike up & turn it up side down you shouldn't be able to knock the battery out. (in case the bike flips down the track).

If you can post a pic I'm sure a bunch of us would be glad to comment. Some of us are leaving soon to go race so you might not get an answer until next week. (hopefully you didn't need an answer for this weekend!)
