DreamRyder's RCC Turbo Evolution - from start to finish
« on: May 21, 2008, 08:58:37 PM »
Ok.. .well I wanted to wait till after I made my first few passes on the new RCC Ultra Turbo build before considering her complete.. but really are our race bikes ever really complete??

I will start out with some pics of when I first got her Oct 2006 and had my best All Motor Pass of 9.28 on my 4th test and tune day:

And here she is after my first winter mods ( installed Boost By Smith Launch and Shift Light, shorter swingarm, cut forks, changed gearing, and put on the Canadian Mikes Billet Front Sprocket Cover)
end of my 2007 season spraying a progressive 60 dry shot with a best  ET of 8.63:

My 2007 season was plagued with many problems from bent shift forks to leaking cases and ending prematurely with cracked cases and trashed tranny...

freind of a freind tried to do me a favor by removing and replacing a bent shift fork around June 06.. after that the cases were leaking from not properly being sealed with enough yamalube.. I was going to wait till later in the season to have someone else fix the problem in the mean time a diaper contained the small amount of oil leakage, but what we discovered some time later was there was a hairline crack issue as well from the person improperly seperating the cases as well as reassemebling the cases that caused the final explosion of my cases in Oct 07 causing the damage you see below:

Well since I was now done early for the season unable to best my times any further after just getting the single stage lock up and suspension dialed in I opted to go with the RCC Ultra Turbo for my 2008 season...

and here are some photos of the RCC Ultra Turbo Build in progress :

sorry for some of those being out of order...  :|

but anyhow..ok now that Richard was done with his end of the build it was time for us to do some of the other modifications locally... like changing the wheels and gears and chain and installing the Canadian Mike Arm and Machine Works Racing Offset Trees and clip ons, install the Cycle Tek Co2 setup, install tail lights, scotts steering damper, new CRG Levers, Boost By Smith Cushdrives, RCC Drag pegs and Quick Access Cover, relocate teh boost guage and mount the new battery box up front and cut my side fairings... I also wanted to touch up my frame and paint the Tiger Racing Chain Guard and Plate mounts and underside of Richards Subframe Satin Black.. and the front wheel a gloss black to match the rear wheel :thumb:

Special Thanks goes out to all my sponsors to whom this build would not have been possible as well as Nem for his extra efforts and many hrs of unselfish wrenchin to help complete the last of the transformations. Twisted (Jake), Buzard (Mike), Busaman (Andy) also are owed my gratitude for coming through for me with hooking me up with various last minute parts that meant the difference of being able to ride or not ride  :thumb:

Thanks Brian... it was fun at times but towards the end I was in tears with things not working right or being compatible with various other changes being made.. and as all my good freinds in the Union kept telling me... Hang in There it'll all workout and you'll look back and say it was worth it...  :hrt:

and you know... they were right... when I saw that 8.03 ticket I forgot all about the bad stuff and let out a sigh of relief that I didn't do all this to only have a bike a tenth of a second faster than what I already had  8)

Here's some pics BQuinn took at the event on Friday... I think it was the last pass when I wheelied half track and some how lost my windscreen all while still trying to stay in the run with 176mph wind in my face LOL...  I have to work on my tuck again.. I'm all out there sight seeing   :|    but figured they'd be fun to throw on here anyhow  once I get teh video of my 8.03 run I'll post that up as well..

you forgot to mention i took a ton of boost out of it. that run (8.03) was not even close to the potential of that bike. infact it was less then i ran in my streetbike  girl hung onto that thing like cowgirl on a mechanical bull. richard and you (e and nem) built a killer for the shootout series.

I wish I could remember what Richard said about what caused the major cracking of the cases to occur - that part had something to do with the other person not putting it back to get right.. where the hairline crack was did indeed split big time and you could see where the person tried to chizel maybe a screwdriver between the cases to split them.

at first the oil leak was only coming from between the two cases behind the water pump where there wasn't enough yamalube - the hair line crack was not leaking and didnt' seem to be a threat - but obviously that was a weak spot to split when the other areas did due to the force of the output shaft being yanked back during the run.. I forgot to post pics of the damage done to the underside of the Canadian Mike Billet Sprocket cover!  also didn't post up the debri found in the pick upscreen for the oil pump... he must of made one heck of a mess with the silicone ....

cost me cases, complete tranny & drive shaft, shift forks, cam chain, and oil pump ... hmmm.. can't remember if there was anything else that got damage ..

one expensive free shift fork replacement job

oh yeah... front and rear sprockets and chain got trashed during this run from the output shaft being out of whack

only good side is most if not all of those items were going to be replaced anyhow but it would have been nice to sell the other stuff to help cover costs of the new stuff.. those items were all new at the begining of 2007 season.

There's a half-moon shaped retaining clip that fits on the input(or output) shaft that is common to miss when putting the motor together.  That may be what happened to yours.  If that happens the torque will screw up the transmission gears and cases.  I know this from experience.......and it wasn't fun.....especially when I talked to Mark at R&D about fixing it!

I have def learned my lesson about letting friends of friends do work for me.. I was in a pinch at the time and felt it was a good idea - he had worked onthe bike before when the previous owner still had it.

I'm very thankful that I have Richard and Nem to help me now  :thumb:
