I don't think I could have talked my father into letting me take out his busa as my second pass ever.

Qoute "12 year old racer, second and third pass ever on a bike."

I am impressed with the run! However, are they trying to say that the boy didn't work his way up to a busa? Big bike to learn on.

I see nothing wrong with that. It is no different than giving him a 125 CC dirtbike and letting him fly off table tops. Or that 13 year old class KTM and red rull have set up for future moto gop racers. Being paralyzed or death can happen in all circumstances.  Its in a controlled environment. The parents have obviously trained the kid how to ride a bike. I dont believe for one second that is his first pass ever on a motorcycle. Im very impressed. That kid has to be very mature for his age. Congrats to him.

That second run the time showed 8.7 but mph was only 119, something don't seem right.  Is that doable?

Regardless, the kid has skills.  I don't think I could let my 12yr old do it but my hat's off to him and dad.

I don't believe that was his first run EVER on a bike at all. Maybe his first runs at a drag strip but not on a bike period. Especially a monster like a dragged out busa.

As for the naysayers, he's in gear and off the street. Far safer then most older, licensed and insured riders in their practice (ahem: street racing) Yes if he wipes out he's in danger of great bodily harm or death. Does getting older/heavier make you any safer? Bike flips and plants it's gastank on your chest it's caving in wether your a 12 year old kid or 34 year old weight lifter. Kids get hurt in sports all the time. Sometimes serious. I recall one report years back of a kid at a softball game he was pitching at. Batter hit the ball and it went straight into the pitchers chest. Poor kid died. I think it was on this forum someone reported a 14-15 year old road racer on a 125cc died in practice on a road course and everyone offered condolences but also that he lived life to the fullest and was lucky to enjoy what he did. I don't see what's different with this 12 year old learning to drag race on a closed course.

If i recall right Ricky Gadson got his start on the streets at a very young age sneaking out with one of his parents bikes in his moms leathers of all things and while he got laughed at and heckled at first, people changed their tone when he showed what he could do with a bike. Whatever the true story is his old man had him on a kawasaki streetbike and he was racing on the dragstrip at 13 years of age. In gear that isn't as advanced as we have today. I hope this kid and his parents continue in this well.  thumb thumb

Nice run!
I think it will be 50/50 on this topic of "should this kid be allowed".
I am not in the position to judge but if I had any say so, he would be wearing more protective equipment. Once of age, he can make his on decision as what to wear etc. I understand that more equipment would restrict his movement and and lbs, but deal with it IMO.

The little guy did well. He seems to be well disciplined in his technique; I'm on the fence too about the risk but as long as he and his father are ok with it rock on.
