never had any problems with riding  on my big tire that is allot of myth that people keep passing around the only noticeable difference is there is more effort needed to lean the bike in the handling has remained the same as far as I can tell.  If you go through my posts I rode a stretched 300 with a stock 1000 and 600 the only noticeable difference was the 300 bike was a heavier bike but suspension and handling all seemed the same.

It's not a myth, you are just not sensitive enough to notice the difference.

I like the '08 tail conversion to the Copper '99.  Very clean looking.

That 08 tail looks the stuff :thumb:
If it does just mount up, I might try that on my 2nd plastics.
It looks perfect in the pic, shouldn't be too difficult to mod(if necessary).
But I'll standby & see...

The bolt pattern is exactly the same...only difference is the inner fender has the electrics moved around to different lactation's, but to me the entire set up is much cleaner than the older mods.  Here are the pics of my tail, when I bought it I also bought the gas tank to go with it, the passenger foot rest & rear-sets to go with it, the last part of the puzzle that I am waiting on is a good deal on the passenger hump.  I additionally purchased ST Machine's revlover front pegs (2 sets), one which I am having machined to fit on the passenger peg ass, and their bullet levers...really nice stuff!!!  From what I can see from mock up everything lines up well, some electrics have to be rerouted (nothing major).  The last phase of my project entails having my gas tank modified to accept my Power Commander screen and two turbo gauges, and my passenger peg ass. are being machined to delete the funky bungy strap holders and the right side exhaust mount hole (not needed as I am running a turbo with dump pipes), then all my controls will go out for chrome .

EXAMPLE PICS OF MY PEGS AND LEVERS

EXAMPLE OF CUSTOM BODYWORK PLANNED FOR UPPER AND GAS TANK

A few more years and it will all be done, you know how these things snoball...they can never be totaly finished...

You just gotta find a deal on a complete tail section or part one together, I am sure that some of the dragracing guys on the board have done some 08 race bikes and removed the stock tail.

I think the k8 tail looks really good on the fat tire extended bikes.  I don't like it as well on a bike set up for handling.  I've raised mine an inch and shortened the wheel base slightly with 18/45 sprockets and stock chain.  I don't think it looks nearly as good as my old gen 1 did with the same set-up.  Maybe I need to get a gen 1 fat tire bike and start switching parts around.

Man that looks good I may try that on my next paint job but what I want to know is when you use the rear end off a 08 will your gen 1 seat still work or do you have to use the gen 2 seat ?

the entire rear is different on the 08s so you are required to convert the entire thing...the driver's seat is narrower in the front and slightly lower than the 1st gen seats.

Do you have any pics of what the inside of the tailsection looks like on the inside?  When you say the seat narrower wear does it need to be cut or modded?

I am also doing this.  I have ordered the tail section, subframe and rear seat cowling.  All I need to get now is a set of seats and passenger pegs.

Does the 08 seat need to be modified when using the 99-07 tank ?

Pictures coming soon...

I may have missed this but I would like to know if this is a direct switch? Meaning, do I have to change the subframe or just order the 08 tail section and install on my 06? How easy is this swap! I have the blue/grey 06 and I think this look will be great on my bike! Someone let me know. I'M JEALOUS!!!!
