If your going to talk about red Italian bikes don't forget an MV Agusta cheaper than the ducati and I cant think of anything the one that cost twice as much can do better besides lighten your wallet.

I'm gonna buy a used one with approx 850 miles so I guess that doesn't count.

What surprised me however was the Kelly Blue Book Prices listed for average retail (9.5K) and trade in (under 7K) for 08's!  I don't care what they list because I can make my own decisions - but I was amazed.  For grins - I checked the 07's to see if there might have been a glitch.

cycletrader.com can locate you a good price if you are willing to drive and can cut through the Dealers' BS.  They need to make a fair return too though.

yeah, $13,000 is what i paid. I looked at 3 different places and nobody was willing to move. So i decided on the only place that had the orange/black. After taxes, matching jacket, helmet, and gloves it came to exactly $15,000. AND WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!  Could be worse, you could spend $40,000 on a ducati 1098r and roll around on an italian made piece of garbage.

Come on down South bro...deals are here to be made...damn 15k even with all that you could have gotten a Harley Fat Bob.

And why would I want a Harley instead of a Busa? No deals to be made around here. I did get a full carbon helmet for $400, jacket was $250, gloves were $60, then tax. I'm ok with the $15,000 because I got what I want without having to travel.

WOW!  Can't we all just get along and talk about Busas.  I for one, can afford a Ducati but chose not to buy because it doesn't fit my needs, nor does it fit my style.  When I went to the Ducati dealership I was impresseed buy what it had to offer but could not do the type of riding that I do on that bike.  I have owned 4 Hayabusas and love being the king of the road. I buy a new motorcycle every year but this 2008 Hayabusa is my keeper.  By tha way, just in case you are wondering what I spent that $40,000 on.... try the BMW 645 + $20,000.

Paid 10,300 in Olive Branch, MS + 200 for the swapping of black wheels.
Just to put my two cents in the ducati convo... I think they are great bikes and all, but if they're so near perfect, why do they keep losing shootouts to the Gixxer 1k?  I'm not being a smartass, but I make a good point.

How much did you end up paying out the door? When I first went by there they had $9999 and the salesman said out the door for 10,700. Last time I went by there they are like 10,399 Plus all the fees and they wanted 11,100 out the door, and thats after taking off the crate fee because the bikes going straight to the shop and getting built. I even had cash when I went in also I just didn't show it to them. I'm probably just gonna go find a used one especially since its getting built.

after it was all said and done, 11,600.  That's with tax and all, but I was so ready to get out of there... they dropped my bike when changing the wheels or moving it or something.  I made them swap out anything that I thought they scratched... only for my girlfriend to drop it a week later.  Where are you?  I don't do too much riding in hornlake/southaven/olive branch/ memphis.  People are way too ignorant of bikes around them.  I'd suggest buying from them AFTER you get accurate insurance quotes.  State Farm with a clean record is a little over a grand for me.  I do send people to OB Suz to buy from them.  Wayne is the service manager and he's been pretty straight with me from day one.  The sales personnel don't always know what is going on, but the guys in the shop do and they're the one's turning wrenches on your warranty work.

Crypt Keeper,

First off I think the 1098 R is an awesome bike and well built for its purpose (the track).  In answer to what the Busa does perfect, that is simple.  It rules the street.  The 1098 R can't keep up in acceleration on the roads most off us are on every day.  The Busa is the quickest and (except for the 187 limiter) one of, if not the, fastest regular production bike out there.  No one I know does a triple digit pass of another bike on a curved mountain road anyway, so I'd say the $12,000 Busa owns the $ 40,000 Ducati in that context.  Don't even think about what a Turbo Busa is capable of.... it will leave any production bike like its standing still (for a lot less than $40,000).  Not to mention its all day comfortable for a heavy six foot man.

My .02

Stock for Stock. The new zx-10 eats the busa in full outright acceleration. Cycle world just did the test. It by far rules the street. Take it out and try thrash it as hard as you can liter bike. You will melt the brakes if they dont fail on you in the first twenty minutes. I had a 07 1k Gsxr. It would destroy the busa in the backroads. Like I stated the new zx-10r out acclerates it. So again. The busa is a great bike. Does  alot great. Nothing perfect. Dont start talking about aftermarket and all that. He has the most money and knowledge wins that with any bike. Just so you know. Exotic cycles is a sponser for the fastest bike in drag racing that is still able to be street legal guess what honey. Its a 07 Gsxr 1000. 1000's are faster in drag racing. All the top dogs. Look at what they race. Gsxr 1k or zx-10r. Thro wina  few 14;s and busas but overall the 1000s are eating up the big bikes.

WTF does the new ZX10 have to do with this topic you jackass, and if you have to worry about the brakes melting or failing on you in the first 20 minutes, than it by far does not rule the street!!

I paid $12,612 for my busa from Freedom Cycle in Grandview, MO.  Not the best price but I only found the black and grey at this dealer.  I searched the entire state of MO.  I agree with crypt keeper in the italian bikes.  Ducati I am sure is a good bike but damn sure not worth the price, since I can mop the floor against a ducati on my busa.  Just in case you were wondering YES I have beat up a ducati on the street. I was not pretty.

pend the $40,000 however you want. But if I had that kind of coin, I would buy a busa and put the other $25,000 in the stock market.

Now, there's an irony.
I'm so slow, all my bugstrikes are on the Back of my helmet.
