Okay -- I see there IS a topic about Jason's get-off.  I posted details elsewhere, but instead of making you go looking...

Nancy was next, right behind him, for a long course runm, when he left.  The bike started fine, he rode off going sharply to the right side of the course to get on good salt, and the bike sounded dandy as he went through the gears.  We spent a few moments getting Nancy suited up -- and heard Glen call out "We've got a rider down -- let's roll!"  We stood around for a while and were in pretty deep shock -- and Nancy chose to move over to the short course to make a run since the long course was on hold.

A while later a person pretty close to Jason's team called me to let me know some information (since the official policy is to not release anything at all 'til much better information is availalbe).  I heard that his rear tire let go at about the 3 1/2.  He went 236 in the quarter, so we can GUESS that he was doing 240 or more when the tire let go.  He (Jason) was seen by a bystander up there cartwheeling for a while -- off the bike, then maybe (MAYBE) he and the bike got close together again before once more going separate ways.  Anyway, the bike burned to the ground.  Jason was in the ambulance soon thereafter, moving arms and legs, helmet REMOVED, and was coherent and talking.

He was taken to the local medical facility and X-Rayed and Ultraviolated and released.  Last I heard he was in town looking for some trousers (I guess they had to cut the leathers off -- don't know why he didn't get pants out of the room) so he could return to the salt.

He had a bike in impound when he made the run-gone-bad -- don't know if he's in any condition to ride the return run on that bike tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, today will be the end of qualifying runs for SpeedWeek 2008.  Anyone in impound tonight will run the return run in the morning, then the meet will end.  We're forecasting leaving Wendover by late tomorrow afternoon, clean-up of the course completed.

The crash was a terrifying event to watch.  He sounded great going by then the back end swapped sides a few times.  I don't know how long the wobble lasted because a trailer blocked my vision of that portion of the course.  The next time I see Jason he is being thrown skyward and the bike began a series of flips and rolls.  As the bike tumbled to a stop it began to burn. 

The bike is hammered, the frame is broken, forks, wheels tail all bent/broken.  The engine had covers ripped off, the turbo is packed with salt and the engine case is cracked.  All replaceable.  I am relieved that he is going to be fine.  It still puts a solemn end to a great week of racing for most of us.  I wish Jason a speedy recovery, hopefully by BUB

Leslie also had a tire strting to chunk after about 7 runs.  I found it on my normal post run inspection.  We replaced the wheel/tire with the spare that I ran last speedweek and had no further issues.

I guess the only good thing is that jason is ok, if he was at maxton on blacktop it would have been alot worse as far as broken bones and rash goes.....

Did anyone hear if he is going to get back on this season..........

Jason, if your gonna try and get a bike back together let me know i have some parts that i send you, if you need any of them goodies you got from me let me know also i can send you some new stuff.........ON DA' HOUSE!!!!!

I'm just catching up.  Glad things didn't turn out worse Jason.  I don't have any trick parts but I've got a lot of basic stuff laying around.  Let me know if you need some of the basics and I'll send you what I can gratis.  I'm assuming from what I've read that you're gonna be OK.  I'll be you don't get off without being sore.  Get healed and get back to doing what you do so well.

i was running 243 on gps in the middle mile when the tire exploded.
there is nothing left of the bike but i am ok

other than that we had a great speed week.
