Flashed my first ECU today (pics inside)
« on: October 17, 2008, 06:41:11 PM »
Big thanks to Petrik for all his work on this, he sure has made this easy.  I started reading up on this a few days ago and ordered a couple of cables and the switches needed, and added a little bit of boostbysmith wiring LOL

I am really going to miss DaveO for this stuff, he sure knew it well.

Petrik,

Wow this stuff is cool....got home today and tried what you said and within 5 minutes I had gauge data working, and flashed me ECU for the first time, 11,200 RPM limiter with no 6th gear restriction (comes on at about 11,600 RPM) actual....How Cool :)

Here are a couple of pics of the cable and switch etc I put it in a box and added a couple of LEDs

Red comes on with power

Green LED means gauge data mode selected

Blue LED means flashing mode selected :)

I have it so i can remove the box from the bike by just unplugging the 6 pin molex connector I put on there.

I am geeked, gotta get the shift light programmed from the flapper solenoid and get the kill box going for air shifter :)

Greg

Cool. Good work. If you start doing these for customers maybe put a little DaveO sticker on them to keep his legacy alive. Your always coming up with new stuff or making things better. Now can you show me how to get 200hp for 5 dollars

Good idea, I was thinking if I sell these a portion of each sale should go to the DaveO fund as well.  I just bought the parts and followed the directions PetriK posted, just tried to make it nice and clean, figured others who are scared to wire might like it, would take like 5 minutes to install the pins into the ECU connector on the bike.

no you just take the left side ecu connector off the ecu, push the white lock to unlock the pins, and insert 4 pins into empty slots, t tap or solder onto 1 wire, and hook the ground wire.  On mine i made it so that stuff stays on the bike with a 3 inch harness and a 6 pin connector, so the programming box stays off the bike.

Good question LOL

They dont cost much to build one yourself, i was thinking if i was going to sell them in the $180 shipped with shift light range and $25 if that will go to the DaveO memorial fund.

yes it can,you cam change fuel, ignition, change rev limitors, remove the speed limiter, unify cyls, operate a shift light or nitrous solenoid, even have a kill operated by the factory ecu.THis stuff has been around for a little while.Petrik has put some information out there for us to see and use.

DaveO was gonna reflash and tune my ride the week he got back from Maxton
So I spent 200 on the hardware thru bikeland.info,  and I bought a used laptop running XP cause it is the most tested with this stuff

I was gonna offer reflashing since there was a HUGE hole left when dave passed. While I was getting my stuff together to reflash , Busa2001 offered to reflash and donate the proceeds to Dave's family......I forgot about offering it, Cause I suddenly felt like a dick, Busa2001 is a better man then me,

So smithabusa can handle your reflashing needs
Busa2001 can also
as can I

three options
it is up to you

and to be honest guys I am brand new to this.

My intention wasn't to start re-flashing, but rather to build the setup so its as plug and play as it can be so you can flash them yourself :)

Have not been much involved here on bike talk - but one comment to this...  This stuff can not be owned by anyone after DaveO - the information is there free for everyone to use, as it has always been. It was a choise to work with daveo on busa reflashing stuff because of his skills and passion for tuning, for those two qualities there can not be a replacement.

If any of you choose to go for the commercial route now as also all the information is becoming more public, please do the same as wayne (b2001), greg (smith...) or mike (wrth...) has promised (in addition to marlin (RR) thats counts to four already ?) - I just wish from the bottom of my heart that all you guys let Josh and Jake know your appreciation through your actions now and in the future. I also hope that the buyers of this kind of services will ask for this same commitment to appreciation towards the family of someone who gave so much and asked for so little.

Thats enough said - hope it was .... not too much ... too soon ...
