yosh cams plus intake cam

I currently have a set of yosh stg 1 cams in my bike and they make 191 hp on mr9.Just womdering if I swap my yosh exhaust for a stock intake will it help or hurt my bikes performance?I also have the usual mod such as pipe,pc2,box mod,ram air seal,and stock head.if anyone has tried this combo your input and degree numbers would be appreciated.Btw,how much more hp can be added by getting a clean up job on my head with this cam set up?Thanks.

In the past years i had a combination like the one you want to install (Yosh intake and stock intake at the exhaust) but i port and mill the head. I got 202 hp and 109/tq  with good fuel (MRX01)  and the numbers for the cams if i remember are 105/107. with just a little more compression (mill the head) the motor accept this combination of cam ''NO PROBLEM'' no loss of torque and as a bonus a good top end rush....

Run no base gasket, .018 cometic head gasket will give you about 12-1 compression without milling the head gasket.

That does seem a bit tight.

I forgot to add that my bike makes 184 hp on pump gas.Is it possible for me to pick up 5-7 hp by just swappimg the yosh exhaust for the stock intake and not porting the head?I would like to get around 188-190 on pump gas and not removing the head if possible.I was told by my tuner that the bike had good compression as is.Thanks.

You're not going gain any horsepower by switching to a stock cam, intake or ex or not. You may possibly gain some low range torque, but keep what you have.

What cams? And where did you degree them?

On my dual intakes, I degree'd them 105/107. For Yosh cams, I thought (could be wrong) that you can degree them a tad more aggressively.

Depends on your deck height, mine had about .015+.018 head gasket+.010 base gasket, -10 off head. Had .060 piston to valve clearance. Turned it 11,300 a bunch of times. So if the head hadnt been milled iI could have run it with no base gasket, If I had it to do over again I would leave the base gasket out or run the .005 base gasket, cant have too much compression.

Mospeada,my yosh stg 1 cams were never degreed.They were installed with the preset numbers 102,105.Suzuki dealership installed them for me the way they came out the box.Eventhough the stock intake is more agressive than the yosh exhaust ,u still think that there is no hp or improvement in et  by swapping out that cam?Thanks.

HELL YEAH there is an improvement to be had! You're way down on power.

You're cams are not degree'd nearly enough!! You're probably down a very big chunk of hp (across the entire board...) and *then* you need to get it re-mapped!

Others will come on here and tell you where to degree them. Do you remember what size Yosh cams? Like the specs?

Dude, you just need to degree your cams, remap, and you'll probably be a very happy camper after that. Seriously, you're way down on power with those cams degree'd soooooooo conservatively.

Wow! you already have 184 HP on pump-gas with stock piston unported head and no camshaft degreeing      ......just by dropping undegreeing Yosh cam in your motor ??  Truly I'm shock

If you have 188-190 HP pump gas by just degreeing your Yosh cam from a stock piston-stock head Well....

I would put a stock int to ex and degree around 105-107.

when i pulled my stock motor down it had 50.75 thou squish.If you pull the base gasket(11.5 thou) and fit an 18 thou head gasket that would give you about 27 thou squish???Don,t you think thats a little tight.I thought your meant to stay above about 37thou squish.I bet the throttle response would be pretty sharp with stock ports and small cams.Lol.

You are leaving the piston out of the equation. My deck height is .015+.018 head gasket= .033 pretty tight, add .005 base gasket=.038, perfect IMO, goal .035-.040.

Yeah....me too.

188-190 HP without removing the head gasket from a gen 1 engine.......SORRY GUYS I STILL THINK IT'S IMPOSSIBLE ON PUMP GAS

Me too. With 2 intake cams,milled head,skinny gaskets, mild port work, thru modified stock ex. On a stingy dyno, pump gas 170 hp. The exhaust really hampers things. Good luck.  Fred

maybe I missed something, but does anyone have or had a gen 1 with yosh cam and stock intake on exhaust side with base gasket removed with aftermarket exhaust,pc usb,large air box mod ect.. that had it on a dyno that gave correct hp reading?????????

Since the beginning of this post i think it's IMPOSSIBLE to achieve 188-190hp from just putting cams (any kind-any lift) in a completely stock engine (I MEAN BY NOT REMOVING THE HEAD GASKET OR MILLING OR....) and especially with PUMP GAS because this post (the guy who start it) specify (Is it possible to get 188-190hp by not removing the head gasket and pump gas????......) 

I maintain my position and as long as somebody show me a dyno chart ''SAE'' that show more than 188hp by just putting cams in a stock head gen 1 busa ........I SAY NO
