No Shit, I used to run there pretty regular when I had the dragster, last run there in spring of 05, it ran 4.30s in decent air, faster with nitro in the tank, blown alcohol small block, got out of it, when it started takeing a second job to keep it running, was costing 250-300 just to get it out and make 3-4 passes, if it didn't tear nothing up, it was a little tough to quit I have raced since the early 70s, but the bikes are a bunch more cost effective fun wise, riding the Harley keeps the better half happy, and the Busa keeps me from wanting to get back to the track, cool running into you keep in touch, .........Dave

At first look I would say a little bit bigger "puff" of nitrous will get you there if you don't run out of gearing :thumb:

Yep that's exactly what it takes! That and a good safe nitrous tune by JohnnyCheese, they just weren't trying hard enough.

Past 2 Oct. Texas Mile events we went over 200 with an aerodynamicly challenged ZX14, 40shot with little wind in 07'
and 60shot into 10-15mph headwinds in 08' bike and rider weighed in @ 765lbs ready for battle.(Rider 235lbs. in shorts)
And this is not even close to redline, give me just another .25 mile let alone 2 miles to get it done and we will see 206mph easily!

Great article though, maybe it will bring more PR to LSR and entice more participants to give it a try. I'm hooked  :|

You must have been starving yourself. We'll have to put some more Ballast material on ya before March.

202.xxxx mph, very impressive for a kawi with a little 40shot and big rider!  :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:

Any changes for March? 60shot, 80shot,.......................... very addictive!

Yep, that's kinda what I was trying to say, I'll go broke trying to keep up,
so If my next challenge is to go over 200 all motor it will take some building of about 230hp on motor!
I'd like to up my speed status a little maybe like 206-7 and have a dependable street driven bike,
that I could drag race some weekends too!

Right now it does it all stock @ 190hp, just needs a little juice to haul my butt to 2hun  :)

Stock tires and stock gearing at rev limit of an 01 (which is 10,800) max speed 186mph.

you could possibly use more training about 01 Busa's, as well as all other Busa's

with other mods, stock gearing on an 01 Busa WILL get ya 200mph at rev limiter

look in the Guiness book of world records

a super lightweight rider took a 1999 Busa off the showroom floor and went 201

Maxton is cool but you can still hallass other places

i seen Barry H. go over 230mph out off of holiday park on Krome avenue.

.

The 1999 had 5 miles to do it in and was using a 39T rear which was japanese stock gearing for the 1999.  Then by gearing change and rev limit restriction along with cam timing for 2000, the japanese was able to restrict the bike to 300kph or 186mph for the Autobahn.  Germany refused to allow the Hayabusa to be sold there if it wasn't restricted.  So after that, all models have had the 40T rear installed with the other restrictions which is overcome with the TRE and a sprocket change.
Again,
Not in 1 mile.  But of course, you must hold at least 40 time slips over 200mph and know what you're talking about huh?

Chris Moore, a Maxton first timer, duplicated the Brock bike and ran Maxton for his first time in September.

He ran 196.69396.  (I just pulled it from the Sept 08 meet results.)

I know this because I was pitted next to him.

So, it is possible for a non veteran to knock out some pretty good speed first time out of the box in the standing mile.

And I have to think aero issues, as in rider tuck,  kept the magazine bike from going significantly faster.

Somebody mention speedo?  I ran a stock 03 'busa at Maxton in June and my speedo was reading 315 kph which is knocking on the door(if 320kph=200MPH).  I was really impressed until I got my slip and read 173.44..  MPH

John, did you have a speedo-healer or similar, TRE something to trick the speed limiter?
You may have had more in it if not, probably on the limiter for a while.

Just a thought  :?

The only thing done to it was a K&N filter(if you don't count the gel seat ).  That bike was a last minute choice.  It had no TRE or reflashed ECU and I was running a 42 on the rear.  Probably had the lowest top speed of any 'Busa there.  I still had a great time and am looking forward to going back again this coming year.  I had originally planned to bring a RCC Stage II turbo set-up but that simply didn't work out.  The turbo is on a bike I plan to bring down this year.

200mph on a n/a bike is pretty impressive to me.   Even big bore/stroked stuff.  Including those that take longer than a mile to get there.

I'm sure it isn't easy. I couldn't do it.

200 in a paved standing mile with a turbo seems much less impressive, almost easy.   I will say almost anybody can do it that way.  Mainly because I did, and I sure don't possess super powers, or have top secret info, I'm just an average 200lb rider, with enough hp

Best of luck for everyone's quest for speed in 2009

Another guy at the Texas Mile did that also and pulled 198.8xx don't know the rest.  I'll be trying the same thing in March with my '08...

I believe that about the 42, as I think the engine was giving all it had.  I won't fall for that the next time: more horsepower, fewer teeth.

I'm going to bring the stage II turbo set-up that came from my street bike and put onto a race-only bike by RCC and run a 39, I think.  Should have about 250 HP.  Not a lot by Maxton standards but should be enough to go 200(here's hoping anyway).

Those that think out of the box bikes can go 200+ with any rider, It comes down to a combination of preparation the right mods for horsepower AND aerodynamics, and the rider's skill at getting power down and getting out of the wind.

I always get a laugh reading about a 600 with pipe and K&N getting "near 200" or some such tall tale.

for the most part, i agree with your statement about an out of the box bike going 200

also, i always snicker (laugh) when i hear some chump saying his 600 does anything over 160mph

My little 600 did 178mph at Maxton with little Millholland riding it. I did 175 on it myself. It was a 636cc GSXR prepped by KWS though.

I think this is the key to this issue. I helped co-write some of that story for SSB and talked to the editor a few times when he could not get 200mph. He was a little surprised but dont forget the guy is huge. way over 6 foot and 240lbs. He is a big bodybuilder type and therefore NOT aerodynamic at all. He talked a lot about the weight in the article but I think the aeros are really the key issue for him. He is jsut too big to tuck well at all.

SuperStreetBike Mag - Cover Story - 200MPH or Bust

In short, the Mag guys take an 08 Busa and see if they can use every day bolt on parts to get it to 200mph.
Full exhaust, PowerCommander, Quickshifter, K&N Filter, GaleSpeed Aluminum wheels, Beringer brake kit, TRE............................But just in case they could not make it with the average bolt on mods, a little puff of N2O was added.

N/A: 186HP

N2O: 211HP

Rider: 240lbs (Just Your Average Meat Eating Beer Swilling American)

Test Site: Southern California Honda Test Facility SEVEN mile oval and TWO mile straight!!!!

First N/A Run: 185.8 MPH

Several N/A Runs later the best mustered: 187.8MPH

First Run on Spray: 191.3MPH
Second Run on N2O: 193.4MPH
Best Run on N2O: 194.2MPH

Final conclusion: Dang, It's Not As Easy As People Say!!!!!!

Special Guest cameos in-article: Scott Guthrie and Lee Shierts  :thumb: :thumb:

The bike obviously has enough HP to easily go 200 mph ... unless it isn't tuned right.  I think the bone stock GenII Busa nearly has enought stock HP for 200 mph.  If a bone stock 99 can go 194, I'd certainly expect a GenII Busa to do 200 with the speed limiter disabled and maybe a slight re-gearing.

Did they dyno it to verify the power output.  If it's not under powered, then the rider can't tuck very well and the aeros killed the top end.

tsk, tsk, tsk.  Folks what you all forgetting in MPH runs is that you are trying to compare your knowledge of past attempts at test tracks to go 200 with your attempt at the Monster Mile.  The word should give you a clue.  You only get 5,280 feet and that happens very fast.  Accelerating to 200mph in just 1 mile is all together differant that going 200mph on a 5mile course.  A bone stock GenII will NOT go 200mph.  A modified genII with pipe, PCIII, special fuel, a small rider (Lee Shierts) just barely made 200mph.  here's the article.
http://www.1st-to-the-finish-line.com/news/news-brocks-performance.html

I can't stress enough to you new riders that going 200MPH is NOT just a stroke of luck.  Even on specially prepared machines, it's damn hard to go 200 in just 1 mile.
AERO is everything.  Your tuck is what it's all about.  You can be 200+lbs, but if you can get SMALL inside the still air pocket beind your screen and body work, you have a better chance of success.
