Installed new lowering links ,and had some play?
« on: January 10, 2009, 11:19:00 PM »
New here.I have an 08 ,and lowered the rear today.I saw that the links had some side to side play in them.I didn't  notice it with the stock ones. The links that I installed are the same thickness as the stock ones.I'm also not sure what to torque them back down to.I thought the torque would be around 110ft lbs.Any info on this would help. :thumb:

There should be no side-to-side play, but you certainly don't need to torque them down that much. Put the bike on a rear stand, and the weight of the Busa will be enough to hold the the bolt from spinning. Get a 17mm wrench and tighten down both top and bottom bolts. That should be it. Bolts shouldn't be coming loose.

Now these are dog bone links, right? Not the adjustable kind which can be prone to breaking or getting out of adjustment.
Take off like a 13, flick it like a 6

you WILL have side to side movement....the suspension is that way there....you have a sleeve/race that the links touch....that allows the system to move....if you lock this done and take the movements out up and down and side to side...the links will fail....

a little is okay....

I lowered 2 inches because I ride in the mountains a lot so I didn't want to get it to low.  I want to lower the front 3/4ths in the front also.  I'm trying to get the best of both mountain, and drag at the same time.Any one with advice on a good mix on this would help. :?

unless your feet wont reach the ground id put it back where it was.
When lowering  that much and 2 in.is alot ,youve really changed the swingarm geometry and the steering geometry for the worse.
Not to mention the loss of ground clearance
