1 pc suite?
« on: January 26, 2009, 09:25:31 PM »
I am looking for a 1 pc suite. What do you suggest for the buget minded guy that wants to go 200 mph? I am 5'8" 175 lbs. And is my DOT helmet OK? What the heck is SNELL? I have ZR tires and the safty wiring has begun. I am going to make a full length chain guard next.
  Thanks
  Steve

Will certainly depend on where you are running--SCTA requires leathers with no fabric-ALL LEATHER-- and very limited ventilation holes in armpit and back of knee. Bubs does not have this requirement.
Snell is another helmet testing standard--alot of venues will require Snell 2005 this year. Just got a new helmet just because of this.
Got my last several sets used for myself and my son,3 on eBay and one on Craigslist

all depends where you are planing on running... you will need a Snell helmet to run Maxton.. as for the leathers, a 2 piece that zips together all the way around your waist is also fine if you dont want to spend extra money (if you have a jacket, just buy the pants....and get a zipper put in)..oh ya, the zippers must be metal at Maxton and you will need some armor in your suit.... Back protector, shoulders, hips and knees....good leather gloves and high boots..   Jody

I got my one piece Joe Rocket on ebay for about $175.  Other than wear to knee pucks, it was like new.  Came with full body armor.  I ran at Maxton the first time last fall.  Maxton allows factory ventilation holes and isn't as anal as Bonneville.

The two piece is preferred, as you can take off the jacket if it's too hot between runs.

And you really want a Snell helmet for high speed stuff.  DOT is fine for absorbing lower amounts of energy, but the higher the energy absorption, the more you'll be wanting a tougher Snell.

I wasn't sure how fast I was going to acquire my stuff as well.  I just kept buying items and figured I'd get to Maxton when I had everything.  It went surprisingly fast.

I didn't decide to go until the last week in February last year, when I watched "The Worlds Fastest Indian" on an airplane.  Rekindled the dream.

Of course, I still needed a Hayabusa at that point too...

Didn't think my 1984 Honda Sabre 1100 would be nearly as fun.

Hey Bikeguy
I am glad you made it! I am looking forward to getting out to the lake. My new front tire just came in yesterday. One part at a time!
