Chris Iovine's Turbo GS1150ES
« on: February 07, 2009, 07:20:34 PM »
Some of you may remember Chris Iovine. Back in the 1980s, he had a turbo Suzuki GS1150ES. It ran a best of 7.08 @195. Like many people have done, he sold the bike years ago. He recently rediscovered the bike in Middletown, Ohio and bought it back from its current owner. He picked it up yesterday and hasn't stopped smiling since then. This thread will feature every aspect of the bike's build, starting with the arrival at his shop in Evansville, Indiana, Action Cycle (812-424-2470). It will be powered by a GS1150ES-based engine with a draw through turbo, just like back in the day. The project may take a while (he does work for a living! lol). I hope you enjoy the rebirth of a badass bike and rider.
By the way, I bought my 2007 Hayabusa at his store and he's helping me with my turbo installation. There are pics of it elsewhere on the site. Great guy and a great shop...enjoy!

Update: Chris should be able to get some stuff done to his bike now. He spent the last few months focusing on getting my bike to go 200 at Goliad. We did it! Woohoo!

The block and head are mockups, but you get the basic idea. After everything is together and functions, it will come apart for chroming, powder coating and paint.

7.08 @ 195 was pretty solid.
Is he keeping the same inlet manifold?

Yep, he'll be using the same manifold. He says the bike is not meant to be competitive with today's bikes, just to run some low 7s and have fun. Updates coming soon!

This project was conceived, designed, engineered, produced, and installed by Dan Rudd at MPS.  The whole MPS team which is Todd, Sydney, Beth, and Kevin were instrumental in completing this project.  Without them it would not have happened. This bike went from a rolling chassis to what you see here in nine days.  All I did was take the bike to MPS, make a few hoses, and pay for it. There were countless 12-14 hour days that made this happen. The guys at MPS are the best. They took the time and trouble to make this old dog learn some new tricks.
