Some discoveries and findings about K8K9 while working the ECU
« on: February 25, 2009, 07:30:55 AM »
To capture a bit wider audience for getting some answers while working on the K8-K9 ECU I am setting up this new thread. THe current status is such that RR has succesfully downloaded the ECU code and based on some of his preliminary dissassembly I am now putting some effort into it to figure out if it can be made a tuning platform. The first question to which I would like to get some feedback is:

Based on discovering what I think is are the TOP SPEED LIMITERS in K8 ECU it looks like the final drive ratio in K8 is different to K2-K7. Anyone reading this who has this difference at hand ? I.e. what is the final drive ratio on K2-K7 and what is the final drive ratio on K8-K9 ?

It looks like the Neutral and Clutched limiters are the same as before in K2-K7, but the limiter with gear on is now set to 11100-11200-11300. (back on, limiter, hardlimit).

Would it be possible to get confirmation on those ?

Where could I buy SDS tool for Suzuki ? (with a reasonable price)

Based on reading the ECU code it looks like having one would be a very beneficial for this project...

Final reduction ratios: 17/40 for Gen1, 18/43 for Gen2.

Yup, My innovate datalogger on my '08 can confirm the 11.2 soft, 11.3 hard limiter.
I know I can do this.  I saw it done in a cartoon once.

Final reduction ratios: 17/40 for Gen1, 18/43 for Gen2.

This iis interesting, I am getting slightly different ratio as a difference for top speed limiters between 6th gear Gen1 and Gen2 top speed limiters:
Gen2         Ratio          Gen1
10323rpm   1,0256   10064rpm
10347rpm   1,0256   10089rpm
Either I have maths wrong (most likely) or there is different gearing in K8 also inside the gearbox - or different tire in K8 compared to K2-K7 ?

Excellent - we are on the right track. There may be small offset in numbers I am currenltly using, but not much.

Besides final reduction the gearbox ratios are same on both. On a side note; 114 link chain on Gen2, 112 link on Gen1.

GenII uses a 50 series tire.
I know I can do this.  I saw it done in a cartoon once.

In theory, Gen2 stock tire could be smaller as the rumour I have heard says Gen1 original BT56R, although marked as 190/50/17, is actually 200/50/17 in size. Don't know if this is true or not.

The tire width varies tremendously... For instance, pick 4 different bridgestone models in 190/50/17 and you will find one that is 188mm, one is 190mm, one that is 192mm, and another that is 196mm. Same thing goes for 180 section widths, Dunlops, Metzlers, etc... A few years ago one of the magazines did a test on tires, sizes, expansion, etc.

I got this from Hans from Germany just soon after sending the initial question out. This is very good info and I was able to validate that the information on this is most correct by reading the ecu code. This is where also you can see the top speed limiters being slightly different to what K2-K7 has even when including the final gear ratio.

So can we all dump our PCIII USBs, Ignition modules, and Hubs  on ebay all at the same time? :?
I know I can do this.  I saw it done in a cartoon once.

Those all are good products with their limitations. Besides I have undersstood that PC:s make a very good additional fuel computer for turbos when hooked to a TPS sensor.

Seriously speaking it will be a couple of months least before anything significant will come out of this process, but I must admit that it all looks very good at this moment...
