PIPES!
« on: April 25, 2009, 07:05:33 PM »
Hey all, I'm putting a 17 tooth front on my 09 stocker.  I'm also looking to minimize wheeling at the drag strip, so I'm going to lose the rear cans.  I am thinking about putting on the Hotbodies Dual Megaphones (basically a nice looking muffler delete).  They state a 6 HP gain if I add a PowerCommander/Bazzaz/etc.

I would love the dual exhaust look, a bump to 200 HP (at the crank), and the sound.   Would I miss the extra 10 horses by not spending an extra grand, or do I even need to do a A/F controller on if I put on the $250 megaphone.

I realize its more power, but $1500 for a Pipe/PC (210 HP crank) vs $250 for the megaphones (200 HP crank) sounds pretty good.

My best with a stock (17/43 gear) 2005 Busa was a 11.3 at 790 total weight and 6000 feet (Denver).  I am looking to get in the 10s with the new 2009.

Let me know your thoughts.

I've seen an 08 with the cut/slash pipes without a pc, and I feel it runs like SHIT.  Atleast get the pc, but better with the full exhaust with cans.

Don't even waste your money on Hotbodies exhaust.  Complete junk!

If you don't want to spend the money for a decent exhaust, just take off your factory cans and make a few passes like that...

Thanks Smokin Weed and Got-Busa?  !

I will try to find a good tuner and do it right, or not do it at all.

What pipe/PC combo do you all think is best.  (Mostly street, some dragstrip)

Thanks.

Cool.

Any idea on the HP gains?  Does it run the same acceleration on lower and midrange?  What PC did you go with?   What (if you don't mind me asking, if you do don't tell me) did your setup cost?

Thanks, I know its a lot of questions, but this helps with making the decision on what mods to do.

Great link!  Guess I could have saved a lot of questions if I had read that first!

Congrats on the 200+ MPH club!

I can see its going to be a good 2k to do the intake/exhaust/tune done right.  Just have to make sure I find a good shop, save a little cash, and think about where to take it to with mods...
Until then I'll have to make do with the Busa's meager 180HP... lol

Thanks again for all the info.

Muzzy makes a decent pipe that's not too expensive. You could pick one up from 58 cycle pretty cheap.

I second the power commander - even the stock bike with stock exhaust will run better with a power commander. From there it is easy to remap for whatever exhaust you choose.

If power is what you are after, avoid slip ons - waste of money unless all you want is a different look and sound.

We have some great deals going on exhausts, as well as performance packages (pipe, power commander, air filter).
