so now I have to ask, why the big back tire?

How much of a difference do you think bodywork makes? Motorcycles are much less aerodynamic than the typical passenger car to start with, and from my very limited experiance at the Mile in March my side fairings on or off make virtually no difference, which I was stunned by.

Why the battery out front?

Fairies in the past have seemed to give 10-15mph. Good example would be last year at Bub John Noonan ran a 238 naked, put the fairies on and ran a 252 next pass. Dean just ran a 217 naked and just put on a windshield thing and went 225. I myself will be satisfied with a 10mph gain with full fairies on my bike.

The battery up front is there because (1) with my sub frame/swingarm combo a battery would not fit in the stock area and (2) I needed to add some weight up front anyway, so it killed two birds with one stone(battery).

My data always indicated a 14 mph gain with fairings.

I have heard that it is not linear, and the faster you go, the more speed the faings add. So Bill may see a 14-20 mph gain as fast as he is going!

interesting, thanks for the replys.

I had always thought stock sport bikes would go faster without the side fairings on, as with them on they create a large funnel to feed the radiator, and I thought surely getting rid of the funnel would help the bike go faster.

I thought that was a good part of the advantage of lowering a bike for top speed stuff.

But I tried it and it really did not seem to make a difference. Not 100% perfect way to measure such a thing, but it's what i could do.

If you get 10mph with fairing then you would have the world record for both nekid (@254) and fairings (@264) correct? Lee still hold the standing mile record at 260mph?

pretty amazing stuff to be sure.

Do you think the bike is less areodynamic with the wide rear tire? I would think that it is but what do i know. How did you find a big tire that was safe to do those speeds on?

That's the secret, Team Fat Ass needs a round of big tires!!! I always thought just wearing black would do!!!

With fairings you might be knocking on 270! But man that bike is a work of art. Be kinda a shame to cover it all up with bodywork really
