Gearing Set Up For a 2004 GSXR 1000...Advice anyone?
« on: April 01, 2009, 06:11:19 PM »
Just curious, I'm a 185lbs rider with a 2004 gixxer 1000. I have a 4" ext on the swing arm and a 45 tooth rear sproket. I have built the bike for drag racing, so the susp. is also lowered. The engine has had all the works done to it, overbore, pistons, port polish heads, cams, high volume oil pump, full Hindle race exhaust, air shifter, and ceramic bearings with PM Revolution rims. I have bulit it to be sleeper bike all engine. I'm just seeking advice on gearing possibilities for the future, that is if I don't already have the best gearing set up for the bike. I have yet to ride the bike its still in the shop about 95% complete, so I don't know what to expect. The front sproket is still at its stock setting, all opinions and expirences welcome. Thanks guys.... :thumb:

Thanks for the advice :thumb:, what numbers do you put up when you run, and do you know your horsepower?

Well since I've already gone with +3 in the rear, I will take your advices and drop one in front. But what kinda of negative effect will this play on my top end....at this point I'm not that REALLY conserned with top end but I like to know how this gearing effects my bike period. I know the acceleration will greatly improve, but I also would like to know how the top end reacts.. thanks guys your advice it is greatly appreciated. I will be picking my bike up on the 25th of this month. Will keep you posted on my numbers and feelings with the new gearing......

I don't know how it is where your from zzr12 but in the chi, there are tons of guys with extended swingarms that aren't fast. And I'm talking 6" plus I only have a 4". Not every one with an extension has major engine work the way my 1000 is done. Alot of people now a days just do it for the looks. Yeah on a track its not a sleeper cause they see the numbers I'm putting up but on the street where I do a lot of my racing guys just think its a nice looking bike, they don't expect the power it produces. Busa and ZX14 riders are always talking shit, thats till I smoke em. Then they start asking what I've done to the bike!!! Track racing is the complete opposite compared to street racing. There are people who are race savy and notice small details with the bike that can hint to the power but the majority of riders out here don't. I get way more races in on this bike then I do when I ride my brother's turbo busa. Nobody wants to run with out a head start or some bullshit catch with the busa, on the 1000 guys are always trying to run cause they have bigger bikes and think they have a advantage. Shit I've had some guys even offer me the jump when they ran me...!!
