Killed a piston and a cylinder.
« on: April 25, 2009, 05:54:25 PM »
I was hoping I had just killed the head gasket, but no such luck. I popped number one and got the cylinder while I was at it. I'm gonna look through the For Sale section, but if anyone knows of VERY low mile pistons and cylinder, let me know. It's a 2007. I'll post pics later.

I have some OEM pistons and you can have them if it gets you back on the road/LSR track :thumb:

What did you figure caused the damage and what are you going to do to keep it from happening.

John,
     I can afford that!
I maxed out the stock injectors/ran out of gear/ran too much boost/learned an expensive lesson during a pass at Goliad. I went 200, so I'm not that upset about it. lol. I've emailed you my contact information. Let me know where to send money for shipping and I'll handle it ASAP. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!

I'm not freaked out by it. I'll get everything back together and ride it all summer. I'll be showing up in Texas in the fall with better injectors, sprockets, race gas, etc.

You live and you learn! I'm not smart enough to give up. lol

I'm not planning on doing much more hellraising on it actually. I got the bike primarily so I can ride with my GF. That's my favorite thing to do. I've been down that "upgrading" road with cars. You're talking to a guy who has $65,000 invested in his race car CHASSIS. I can't see myself doing that sort of thing again. lol

Yuppers.

Running the mile on pump fuel is always a gamble. Race fuel is cheap insuranse compared to engine parts.

How much boost?  stock compression? That was DEFINETLY a gamble running a mile WOT on pump gas.....You'll get it back together in no time....Just do your homework this time around....throw a spacer plate in there while you're at it.

Kudos to Speedking for the freebies.... I have "donated" two sets of freebies to board members myself....its good to help out others... :thumb:

BTW, wasn't it you that I mentioned something about your AFR being too lean up top??? might have been another member but I thought it was you because I remember the blue 07....not many of those out there...

What was your setup at Goliad?  I am trying to figure out if you detonated it, it ran lean or both...Weird you only got one piston....almost wonder if you locked or plugged an injector or something...

Everyone that goes turbo has at least 1 or 2 melt downs....I think its a right of passage...

Just got news that my cylinder may be usable. I will know in a couple of days.
After talking to SpeedKing earlier, I've decided to run the bike on the street all summer with stock guts (better injectors, though). I am almost always riding with my GF, and she has a Ninja 250, so I don't see myself raising too much hell with it. lol.
It'll get lots of cool stuff (but no HP/boost increase) over the winter.
The closest LSR event is still a full day's drive from my house, so I can't see myself making many of them. 287 at the tire is a fun level for me. I can't see myself changing it anytime soon.
