Dissapointed.. 1st track day
« on: May 02, 2009, 08:30:02 PM »
Ok, I went to the track for the first time Friday.. Bone stock 08, brand new, only mod, strapped the front end. I am 235lbs, ran 10.35 at 140mph. I was in and out of the gas becuase of wheelstands...

I had a 2007, in race trim I ran 9.4's. I was embarresed to say the least. My 07 I was strapped, lowered, piped, ran 16/45 gearing, would launch at 5000 and basically drop the clutch and pin the gas...

This new one has tons more low end... Today I lowered it, added a brocks pipe, changed the gearing to 17/45.. Also did the clutch mod. Have I missed anythiong? What about the stock clutch springs, are they weak? Any help would be appreciated,,

Which clutch mod did you do? If not a brocks you should probably order some spacers to use with stock springs. What type of air filter do you have a BMC or K&N should help, also a PC III or PCV or Bazzaz Box to dial in that new pipe.

stock springs on mine caused me to lose about 2 mph after around 10 passes. put 10lb heavier springs and kept the brock spacers in and no more problems. make sure your stack height is right too.  i put the stock gearing back on after trying a 17 in front cause i was going through the traps in the middle of 5th, stock gearing top of 4th every time. would have liked to try going up a couple in the rear with the 17 but will wait until i need a new chain. mine likes to be launched at just above 4k. you should see around ten more mph and almost a full second your next time out if your track is good. were at sea level and i see .2s and 153 regularly.    :thumb:

most dealers that make clutch parts sale them.  you just usually have to call and ask them,i put the slave support just incase also. brock probably has them. make sure you get the same height springs, just more spring pressure.

Go Back to stock gearing, when you pipe it and get it tuned they are a different animal, you'll really have trouble keeping the front end down with that gearing.

We have heavier springs...

Chances are, lowering the rear will help with some of your problems... What about a Power Commander? If the throttle is not precise and crisp, it can be a lot harder to modulate as you feed the clutch out.

What about tire pressures?

Stock wheelbase???

I do have a power commander with Brocks tune. I ran stock tire pressure as I wasn't hitting the tire hard. So here are the mods I have done after the last outing:
Lowered the rear 3"
Change to 17/45 gearing
Added Aleien Head pipe
Power commander
Shinko tire
MRE Clutch Mod

I was shifting at 11K by the tach, I see that they may be a bit off though. I planned to take my stock back sprocket to try, just incase the 45 is to much. I am 245 with leathers.
I used to leave at 5500 on my 07, basically dropping the clutch and screwing on the throttle, 1.55 60s and 9.4 et with all the same mods except the 07 had a 6 over arm and 16/45 gearing.

i run around 35psi in my rear tire and about 46 in the front at the track on my stock wb. on a bad track day i usually only have to adjust the shock to find the traction i need.im only 215 suited and this guy is 245 so sounds right. only problem on the starting line with these new busas at stock wb are wheelies, they hook!

Yes, 35psi. On my 2007< I ran about 16 with a stock tire, 15psi with a Mickey. But I was leaving a whole lot harder. The newer bike is a different animal. Heard guys were launching in B mode, flicking up to A modeafter they got out. Don't know if that works or not.

much better!  if you wheelied and still ran a .6 then it should run hi .5 or low .6 with same 60' and when you get it in the 1.5s it should run .3s-.4s consistently with occasional .2s
i let a friend of mine ride mine last night cause hes a much better rider and much lighter then me, he couldnt keep the front end down but ran 155.7 mph  :bah: awsome bikes for sure, keep getting those times down 8secbusa and soon your bike will fit your name perfect. :thumb:

Are you still shifting at 11k on the tach...?  Try going 11,600 indicated and see if that helps... ;)

I was shifting at 11K indicated, will try uping the shift points to 11.5/11.6 indicated. Adding a air shifter next week, Shifting in the air, for a fat guy, is a bit challenging!

I still am hanging the throttle for at least 100ft, when I can let go quicker, I would expect another 1-2 tenths and 3-4mph.

Just an update. 2 weeks ago I managed a 9.26!!! Really no changes, just learning the bike. I did not blieve these bikes would run like this, I assumed people had more mods them they led on.

My Mods: Alien Head, PC3, 2 up gearing, drag chain, strapped and lowered.

Yes, on the dyno, peak hp happened at 10400, which the tach showed 11000 rpm.
