1397 Deck Height For Nitrous
« on: June 28, 2009, 03:44:12 PM »
Ok Engine Builders, Heres my setup !

1397CC Block
Wiseco Custom Pistons 12:1
Head done by me, Polished intake, Exhaust ported and polished to match the exhaust gasket, cumbustion chamber polished.
Head shave down a bit by the machine shop
APE 65lb Valve springs
2 Intake Cams at 105/105
Stock Rods
Manual Tensioner
APE studs and nuts 10MM not the 1/2 ones
NX Wet Kit 100 Shot
Walbro 255 fuel Pump
NOS Progressive Box
ignition retard Box
Air Box Mod K&N Filter
Muzzy Side Winder

Ok guys here are the questions my Deck Height is 0.038 without a base gasket. I mostly run 1/8 but will ride it on the street every now and then.

Should i run it with that Deck Height or put in a 0.005 base gasket to bring it up 0.043 ? will be running a 100HP Shot on it every on and then.
Can the Stock Rods Handle it with a long build time ?
What do you think my estimated HP will be on motor with a good tune ?
Whats the biggest Shot of Nitrous you think it will handle with the deck height of 0.038 ?
Whats the biggest Shot of Nitrous you think it will handle with the deck height of 0.043 ?

Guys just so you know i don't want to put aftermarket rods in it right now,  so lets talk about what i have now and making it live  while getting the most out of it

All input is appreciated  :thumb:

If you have a 1397, a 100 shot is already too much on stock rods in my opinion. I wouldn't go over ~260 - 275hp on stock rods with spray myself.

Johnnycheese I know the pistons are 12:1 to start with and i know the machine shop took 0.007 off the Head. Your correct, I'm not sure what my compression would be with the 2 different deck heights. Maybe now that you know a little more you can help a fellow member out a little more PM me if you like  :thumb:. Sportbikeryder i didn't get the last part  :?

OK Guys this thing is going to get sprayed one way or the other  8)

I did some shopping around for Head and base gaskets. Here are the following deck heights i can have

0.038
0.040
0.043

The bike will be ridden on the street some times but will mostly run 1/8.

Whats the most i can spray it ?
What deck height would best suit my application ?

Thanks for the help so far guys keep it coming ! :thumb:

Stay under 300hp with stock rods and crank.
I'm at 265hp on my 1397 with spary and no problems yet.

Ok so ill spray the 60 shot. Hopefully that should give me aprox. 260HP or more.

The question now is ? which deck height i should go with to give me the most HP possible and still last along while ? which one of these

0.038
0.040
0.043

Thanks guys  :thumb:

I haven't been on in a while but i will give my .02.......since this bike will be ridden on the street, putting the piston in the hole .038 is plenty for a 60 or 100 shot for that matter...... Keep in mind that the more you put the piston in the hole the more power you are taking away from the engine while not on the spray...I have a prostreet busa and i spray 200 hp and i'm only .045 in the hole and the bike runs really well.....hope this helps

Thanks NitrousBusa  :thumb: I'm running stock rods and i read on the brock's site that i should not attempt to run 0.037 unless i have good aftermarket rods ! Now I'm wondering if 0.038 will be too tight when i use the nitrous ?

So engine builders i know your reading this  HELP OUT a fellow member  :beechug: PM me if you like.

Whats the best move  :?

I know this is an old one but I just caught something on your original post.

You are using a retard box? If that is from Schnitz go throw it in the trash today because it will destroy your motor when it fails and trust me it will. Thats why they took them off the market. Go get your ecu flashed and when you hit the nos switch tie it into to your second map in your ecu and it will retard your bike with its own equipment. Take a look at the ECU hacking section to see more!!!! :thumb:

PM smithabusa for the ecu flashing products. Im using mine for a turbo using no power commander or bazzaz. for gen2's they have boost fuel for turbos. with ecu flash you can control fuel on both iap and tps maps, ignition control and your MSO map for a secondary map.

put em .040" in the hole for that much juice.  But what do I know after blowing up 7 motors in 4 years with a 1397 setup.

just my $.02
