Got her ready....
« on: July 26, 2009, 03:26:48 PM »
For the strip that is.  Gonna test it out friday night.  got up this morning and did a bunch of work to it.(Install: Soupy links, lower/strap it, -1 front, stock windscreen for visibility, adjust suspension, mod a shortened busa kickstand to fit the 1000 etc, lastly a fresh oil change).  I haven't got the Zx10 anti-shudder plate in it yet....gonna try it friday night with the stock clutch and if it sux, I will order the plate.  I got the axle almost all the way back, hopefully that will help some. I have some buddys that are just starting out drag racing on piped 08 busas so I am gonna try to give em hell....

Thanks bro!  I will probably just order one from Ron Ayers, they are only $8+shipping.  I am just trying to figure out that if I pull out a thick fiber to install the anti-shudder plate, which is 2 steels, thats gonna give me a steel on steel in the pack.....I am not sure if I am misunderstanding something with that combo or if that is just how its supposed to be....>You would think the clutch would slip like a mutha with steel on steel in there?

steel on steel are both driven by the inner hub, just acts like a single steel twice std thickness.i was a little concerned about removing a fibre out of the set and the surface area that looses,  but it gave no probs at all

Race night #1 didn't go bad.....but it didn't go good either.

The bike was smooth and consistant all night, I just couldn't get it to leave....Gotta figure out what this thing wants.  Weather was hot and rainy, took 2hrs to dry the track, about 92* at 7pm, 85% humidity...  Race weight was 630lbs, 190lbs of which was me.

My best was a 10.08@141.xx with a 1.78 60'.

I had a bunch of 10.teens and .20s.  I made 8 passes.   I know I am leaving a lot on the table with the 60' and 330'.  Only going 4.40 330's.

Just need to change my riding style on it and figure out what it needs without it looping me.

Tonight is Race night #2.....this is a different track about 2 hrs from me.  Its known to be a slower track then HRP(2-3 tenths/mph) but I figure I can get a lot of passes and at least learn to 60' the bike.

Pic from Race night 1, my 10.08 pass.

No 9s.....  Race night #2 was not very productive.  We had a bad headwind initially that along with a track that is known to be 2-3 tenths/mph slower, didn't help.  My best was only 10.16@140. I had a shit load of 10.20s but....  I could just NOT get this thing to leave.  Clutch was smooth, I was getting WOT by the tree but it just wasn't jumping off the line good.  Eventhough it felt like I was throwing the clutch out to get the jump, then sliding it to get WOT, I was still only getting 1.81-1.83 60's....  I'm gonna keep trying though....I can notice the clutch is gonna need adjusting after only 18 passes as its engagement point is now getting way out there....I am thinking that is some of my 60' problem, not getting the clutch to hit quick enough off the line.

I did put a lighter local racer on it who can ride pretty well, he only weighs about 155lbs suited and races every weekend, he made one pass and went a 10.03@139.70 with a 1.74 60' and he was shifting off my light which was set waaay to early(I use the tach)...   I KNOW this thing will go 1.65 60's stock wheelbase, I just have to figure out what it wants.  I figure a 1.65 60' should get me a 9.85 or so....thats probably about as good as its gonna get during the 95*+ summer and my 195lb ass.

Still no 9s yet...

This past Friday night I went a 10.02, 10.03, 10.05, 10.08 and a 10.14. Average mph is 141.5-142.3.  I did manage to hit a 143.33 mph once.  Best 60' is still only a 1.76.  I'm getting better on it but still needs a lot of work.  I need to get atleast another tenth off the 60' and 2 tenths on the 330'...... That SHOULD get me in the 9.80s@142 if I can get it done....Thats probably all I am gonna get out of the ole girl at my weight (195lbs suited) and the HP I have.  This is still stock wheelbase and staying that way.

Any of you other stock wheelbase 1000 riders feel free to chime in with launch tips... :D

IMO i would get the barnnet clutch its lifetime warranty at least while your getting your timming down. What rpm are you starting out at. I start mine at anywhere from 6k to 8k. If you do your clutch order some heavy duty springs from brocks I thought it helpped me a ton. I ride a 06 1k and I'm about 207lbs suited my best was a 9.98 and that was my 5th time at the track.

Old thread reply....

I did eventually get it in the 9s..... Best was a 9.87@141 with a 1.67 60'.....That was about all I could get out of it.  If I left any harder then that it would wheelie.....I know more skilled riders could have really worked the clutch and probably gone mid 1.50 60' with it and probably 9.50-9.60 at 195lbs but.....Not me.  I retired it from drag racing and just use it for my street rider now and attempt to drag race the busa....
