best cams for 03-04 gsxr 1000
« on: August 10, 2009, 01:54:06 PM »
What would be the best cams setup for an 03-04 gsxr 1000 with ported head, thin gasket and stock bottom end?  The bike would be street/strip.  Thanks Mike

Don't use the 395/358 web cams.  The EX cam is really short duration and makes the bike hard to start.  I know cuz I have them in my motor and I have to use 2 batteries to crank my 3x4 ..... but I know a lot of guys that can start their's with 1 battery.

Steve,
The INT's duration is 266 and the EX's is 241.  It says right on Web cam's site:  "High lift short duration cam produces good overall power"

I guess short duration keeps the cylinder pressure tighter all the way up the RPMs ...... but forget starting that thing on 1 battery.  I thought it was gonna snap the starter clutch in half.

I already spoke to Bob about doing one of my 05 heads.  I liked what he had to say, and plan on making a trip to 117 Cross Key road when it's time to freshen the 3x4.
