HELP!!! found this in my oil pan?
« on: August 17, 2009, 04:51:50 PM »
I found a dowel in my oil pan. The reason I took the pan off was to tap it for a oil return from a turbo I plan on installing. The piece is 10 mm dia X 16 mm long and is hollow?

Have you had the pan off lately?  I think there is a dowel used to line up the oilpan when putting it on.

No oil pan off, I had a problem pulling my clutch in last week, pulled the clutch lever in after hard playing, and was rock hard, did not move in. Three or four pulls later everything was fine?

Just pulled the cover, both dowels where there. The dowels for the clutch cover are about the same length as the one I found but my one is about 1mm larger in diameter.

I bought the bike last year, the guy I bought it from had it for 1 month and sold it cauz his ballz where too small. I have no history on this bike. The bike has a Brocks pipe, extended swingarm lowerd front and back. Also has had a clutch slipper mod done so the bike was raced before. One other thing, the engine when cold seems to have a louder than normal cam chain noise(I think) Its realy hard to tell where the noise is coming from because the Brocks pipe is so fricken loud.

Checked all gaskets and head for porting(none), as far as I can tell the engine has never been apart.

Was there any other metal in the pan? If not I would say check the other case covers(stator, starter, cam cover) Those would be the only ones with out the whole motor being apart. Or another good chance is someone pulled the trans due to the 2nd gear failures for fixing and it's from the lower to upper engine case. That is the only place I can see it would be from.

No metal or any other parts. I am not going to worry too mutch, everyone thinks the same thing, a dowel for a case. Probably dropped in after some maintenance and the guy was too lazy to pop the pan. Thanx everyone for the input.  Andy
