6ALV4 titanium which is what we use has an ultimate tensile strength of 138,000 psi   http://www.onlinemetals.com/alloycat.cfm?alloy=6Al%2D4V

7075 T6 aluminum which is the strongest, and is what we used for the pro stock retainers we use to make for Greg Cope, had uts of 83,000 psi. http://www.onlinemetals.com/alloycat.cfm?alloy=7075  They were throw aways. Only used for one weekend max.

That is a huge difference.

When you make a set up in the press to force a valve and keepers through a retainer, there is no comparison. The valve and keepers can be pushed thru an aluminum retainer much easier than a ti.

Exactly jay. That is the reason I put the ti retainers in my 1397 with heaver springs.I wanted to make sure it would not swallow a valve

ULIBUSER should feel pretty stupid right about now. He made a very bold and potentially harmful statement about a sponsor of this site, and the statement was shown to be exactly what most of us suspected... B.S.

I'm glad APE came out of this with it's head held high and nothing to hide from  :thumb:

Thats right, I feel pretty stupid - because I didn't know that not all Titanium materials spark
nearly the same way and trusted the expert at the shop( which is still sure they're not from Titanium)

I can only ask you to excuse my fault, it was wrong to call them "Fake"

But it remains the fact that these APE retainers were stamped thru by a .445 Webcam with APE springs.
So we all can learn that this happens independandly from how the spark.

What was spring pressure at full lift?

Thanks for apologizing for calling them fakes. I ony wish you would have contacted us about this rather than posting on a forum.

As for damaging the retainers, all I can say is a lot of people use these on 445 lift. I would be very interested in hearing what you find was causing it.

Coil bind? broken or not set keeper? Cam timing so far off the piston hit the valve causing the keepers to jump?

2X? :thumb:

I believe he said he had our springs, so he is not close to coil bind with 445 lift.  http://www.hayabusazone.com/springs.html

He also has our lowered guides, so that would not be an issue either.
