GEN II instrument cluster on GEN I engine
« on: September 16, 2009, 12:07:54 PM »
Greeting everyone in the bonds of peace,

I really like the GEN II instrument cluster and was wondering if anyone has re-pinned one for GEN I engine/ecu.  I realize the GEN II engine and ecu offer many others feature (gps, fuel mapping presets) not available in GEN I. the connectors are not compatible after looking at the 08 ecu and cluster connection.

I would just like access to the basics (tach, speed, odom, fuel level, temp and signals) and gps. On the GEN I,  theres only 3 wires so it should be easy to convert other than a differnce in electrical resistance???   I would want use GEN I motor and ecu (2002'-2007') with the GEN II instrument cluster.

Perhaps the hayabusa ecu hack site can make it work?

Post my own reply..   From research I'm finding it cannot be done.  Electronics are totally different. GEN II uses Can-bus (for whatever that is)

Take if from me...I have done a swap of the fairings and purchased the entire 08 set up with gauges for my 05...I wound up selling them because the plug style is different than that of the 1st Gen bikes...it would be to much trouble to make them work.  All the body work fits fine though.  I ended up doing a mix of the old and new stuff.

I almost forgot to mention the foot pegs from the 08 can be retrofited to the 1st Gen Busa, but the right side has one bolt hole that won't line up properly.

Sorry it was a distorted sneak peek of a build I'm doing...a limited teaser run, I took them down.
