What's the deal with The Miami Mile?
« on: October 21, 2009, 11:48:47 PM »
I just heard about the Miami Mile event in early January. I have an email in to the event personnel, but I'd like to hear what you guys/gals think of it. Ever been? I'd like to have my GF run her R6 there and shoot for 160 mph, but only if it is highly recommended. Details on their site seem to be a bit scant. It's her first time doing such an event and I want the experience to be as safe and enjoyable as possible. Thanks in advance for your comments.

UPDATE:
I emailed the folks at the Miami Mile. They said they will have an announcement pertaining to the early-January event on their site on Friday (10-23-09). Their site is www.milemarker-1.com.
I'm still open to your comments and experiences with the venue. Thanks!

106,
i don't know anything about the event other than what Sal (THE ICE MAN) told me this morning.
He said the track is 2 miles long, in beautiful shape, and the organizer is getting his shit together.

Sal is a guy whose word i take to the bank.
I'm going in Jan.  8)

they need a timming system. The radar gun isn't the best approach esp for bikes.

The facility is great.  One mile to run and one mile to stop.  Great surface -- all straight.  Organization at the first event was horrible.  The timing system was no existent.  All they had was an inaccurate radar gun.  They are supposed to have a Tag Heuer timing system and they are supposed to get their act togrther for the next event....

My GF and I will definitely be taking her R6 and trying for the 160 mark. We'll also be hauling a friend's 929RR. He wants to shoot for 200...we'll see. Easier said than done! Anyone know someone who's gone fast on a 929...and how? lol

929 Geared stock:

That was with a slip-on.

Heavier guy with a full pipe and tune who geared for 165 was able to pull it.  Back in my hands with the tune and the right gearing....low 170s for sure.

200 mph ain't happening...sorry.

With no ram air, the 929 usually gets pulled up top by the 9R FWIW

No need to say you're sorry! I doubted the ability to get it done, too. I think people who haven't done it underestimate what's needed to get it done. He may not even go if he's that far off the goal. I'll talk to him. Thanks for the input!

On a stock motor he'd need a BIG shot of nitrous and a lot of luck for an attempt at 200 because it'll probably blow up before the traps.

Dynoed the GFs R6. 101.9hp/43tq all motor. Gonna do a tune with and without the nitrous. Shooting for 160 mph at Miami. We'll never know unless we go for it!

Perty Cool, maybe in the 170's with the right weather conditions.

I should know after next weekend if I'll be shooting down to check it out.

This will be a bit of a fact finding mission for me. I'm considering taking my bike next year, but I want to try a slower bike first. I'll give a full report upon my return.
