How small of a rider is too small?
« on: January 28, 2010, 11:04:27 PM »
My GF is 5'4" and weighs about 135 in full gear. She normally rides a slammed R6. She recently raced at the Miami Mile, where she went 159.403 mph. I know it's a HUGE step, but I've given some thought to letting her ride my 2007 turbo Hayabusa in a controlled manner on the street. She is a good rider and doesn't do stupid things. She's also physically fit and strong. Here's the question, how do I determine if she is capable of riding the bike safely? If she does well, we may put her on it for a race after a year or so.
This is a big deal to me. She's quite competent, but I couldn't bear to put her in a situation she can't handle. Thanks for the input.

to be very fair, could give a much more informed response, if there
was a detailed picture available....

both with and without gear would be best...to be fair..

this isnt to be taken lightly, high res images will help immensely..

I'd put her on a stock Busa first it's quite a different beast from an R6 and then let her step up to the turbo, lots of girls do the lsr thing but they usually have another type of racing background first.
Hayabusa, because 14's are just slow!

hell, i'd just ask her.

she was running the piss outa that 600 at Miami.

From a distance she seemed to be assertively controlling the bike, not just twisting the throttle and passively hanging on.

Ask her, does she feel comfortable  stepping up, WAY up.
Often wrong, but never unsure!!!!!

What does size have to do with it other then do you feet touch the ground to hold up the bike?
(she's "bigger" then me! Heck I think she's bigger then JoeA!  :hys: )

Does she have throttle control? Does she listen to directions?

If the answer is yes then she can do it.

If she can ride a bike and you can tell her to ease on the throttle or the bike will stand up, and she'll listen, then she can do it.

Just as an FYI, I have zero race background and started racing in LSR on a bike. I've been to the drag strip to practice launching & acceleration a few times but other then that no race experience. I never rode a dirt/mini bike before learning on a street bike. In fact, I waited to race until I had more street miles because I was a very new street rider when I was first introduced to LSR.

If she wants to do it, she can do it.

(JoeA you're a slut! :P )

Thats right, never too small, Trillium was 118 pounds when she first got on a turbo bike, and she only had a few years riding under her belt,on a gs 500. She took her time and made baby steps with her speed, most of her increases were only by a few miles per hour, this gave her the confidence and feel of higher speeds. Trillium is also fit and very strong, she was in the gym alot which gave her strenght to hold on and handle different situations.  If you are to worried about something (heaven forbid) bad happening, then take  your time or dont do it at all, because shit does go wrong sometimes. Sometimes I wish that I did not make the trip down to Maxton back in sept 06, because now I have a speed addicted nut on my hands and everytime she runs down the track, LSR or Drag, I shit my pants,  Good luck  Jody

That's one seriously cool mom, dude.
My GF has now been 159 at the Miami Mile and she jumped out of an airplane over the summer. Not bad for a mother of two teens, huh? lol

The GF is gonna stay on her R6 for a while. We're gonna see how fast we can make it go before any major changes. If she outgrows that, maybe we'll get her a liter bike. Those Gixxer 1000s are haulin' butt.
