How do you properly clean a K&N ?

Pulled the filter off the turbo today to put a nozzle in for water injection and its grimy as hell, how are you supposed to clean them?  Thanks

thanks, no its not a foam, just a K&N that comes with the hahn kit.  It thought I heard before you can clean them with gasonline or kerosine or something like that.

K&N make a two can package called The Filter Recharger. One can of cleaner that you spray on. It does a great job. The other can is filter oil.
