2002 GSX-R 1000
« on: March 22, 2010, 11:27:21 AM »
I have a buddy that had his engine rebuilt on a 2002 GSX-R 1000, he's noticing that when his bike is cold and he puts on the choke, the starter will crank the
bike but stall as if it cant spin the crank at times. What could possibly be the problem? It only does this when using the choke when its cold.

Is this a bike from somewhere other then the USA? My 2002 GSX-R1000 did not have a manual choke.

I talked to the guy and he sounded like he was unsure, it could be an 01. For the 1000's that did come with a choke would could be causing this problem.

I'd check that he has a good solid ground on the battery and starter. Also is the battery in good condition, put a meter across the battery terminals and have him hit the start buton then see what the voltage drops down to?

Does it make horrible metal clanking noise and does it looks like it kicks back? Then replace the starterclutch, before he breaks his cases
