« on: March 30, 2010, 05:21:37 PM »
check this shit out,,, i put the strut on ok not bad at all on a 1 to 10 scale i give it a 7,,,so i make some passes with it ,them im bout to race my buds 1000 when i hit 3rd i feel like my brake is sticking,so i hit it more THEN my left foot hits the groung &flies out to the side ,when i pull the clutch the bike comes to a hault!!! well guess what the links broke sending the tire into the fender .....fuct up ey...nothing majorly screwd just scraped for the most part ...had this happened to anyone with anytype of lwrng links with the strut? i fixed it quick ,made some links myself out of steel...........from experience what else should i look for as far as breaking with the strut? will the shit hold up? i rode with the steel links & did great but i had to pull that one outta the sleve what else should i expect from the srut?

If ya make the links stronger something else is going to give, cause there is no movement in a shock any more with the stiff strut and all the shock from bumps on the road go some were.

Glad ya didn't cause more damage cause of it breaking your links.  :thumb:

Why would you run a strut on a streetbike that has no significant poser mods that sometimes require a strut (such as an extremely wide tire kit)?

Or even appear to be low enough to require one from what the picture looks like.

well the major reason is that i am 300lb 6 ft just a little ovweight :thumb: and the way it was on the picture it would bottom out every other bump( still had the shock),also my wife loves to ride and i know it wouldent work with the shock,i also as well love the low look.

If the bottom of the link is cut off, it is much weaker. The link in the post broke because the owner cut off the part of the link that prevents it from doing what it did. Just putting it in the upper holes is not good enough if the bottom is cut off.

Did you remove the material below the lower hole on purpose?

yup just like the instructions say to do to fit ....either way im sure if never cut ,it only uses the in between material for support...the other holes would have made no diff.,,,when it was time to break it would just fall in the next hole.................huuuum i would at leaast had 2 chances to notice something was wrong

Honestly I think I would just get a new shock spring to match my weight, you can lower it good if you have proper sag. Course I am a big beliver even a bit over zelous about proper suspention. Curves are not forgiving and I live to ride them so I need the correct suspention, this winter I am going to redo my forks on the B king to get it just right.

Yeah, putting the correct spring on it for your weight is going to be much safer than the hill-billy set-up you nearly killed yourself with.  But I don't see any mention of the front suspension.  The front suspension on the Hayabusa hugely under-sprung, even for normal-sized riders.

Here is a link to a spring rate tutorial that I have had stickied here for five years, in the hopes of preventing the loss of life that you almost experienced:
