06 GSXR 1000 PowerCommander issue
« on: April 14, 2010, 05:56:10 PM »
I've got one that I just scratch my head over, need help.

The bike has been tuned by me, twice; two different owners.  Strong, IIRC HP in the mid-180s.  IIRC, traps in the low-150s

Tunes fine on the dyno, no problems.  When you take it to the track, first pass is great.  The next few passes the bike breaks up in 1st gear, but runs fine from 2nd gear up.  The next couple passes, breaks up in 1 and 2, 3rd on up is fine.  More passes, worse it gets.

When you disconnect the Power Commander, runs fine with no breakup, of course runs a LOT slower and I am sure is detonating from a lean condition.    First owner, got mad and purchased another Power Commander.  Did the SAME thing.  Got even more upset and sold the bike.  Now the new owner wants it to run right.

I'm clueless.

doesnt sound like a power commander issue to me, especially i you've tried 2 of them. what kind of numbers are in the pc3. Have bumped the fuel pressure up?

If I can remember when I stop by the shop afterwhile, I'll copy the tune over and look at the numbers.   Yes, orginal owner had it "professionally tuned" before I started.  When I got ahold of it the AFR was much leaner than I like (13.4 - 13.6 : 1) and the injectors were maxed out, FI light on nearly every pull and I couldn't tune it richer.  We installed a larger pump and pushed the fuel pressure to 58 psi.  Back the numbers down in the PC3 table and tuned it 13.1:1.  But the problem of cutting out at the track was still there.

that's too high. IS this a big motor or stock? Sounds like you got a bad fuel pump. Plus you know the top injectors give about 80% o the fuel at wot above 8000 rpm. Are you trying to spray it?

No Spray, yet.  Stock bore but JE pistons with head work and cams.

From what has been told to me, the orginal fuel pump gave up the ghost after U4 was left in the tank for an extened period of time.  Then a suposedly larger pump was added, but didn't increase the FP until I started tunning the bike.

If its got a bigger pump and bump fuel pressure no way you should need to be in the 50s. What is the power commander program showing the duty cycle is on the injectors that high. You may want to try swapping the pc tp the top injectors and see if you can get more fuel with out killing the injectors.

if the kick stand switch is still hooked up bypass it. I will bypass evryone I ever own, as well as running resistors to bypass the tipover switch.

I have seen the same problem and have an idea for you if you haven't sorted it out.

What is your idea?  I have a 2005 GSXR 1000 that is running lean at WOT, and I was thinking Fuel Pump / Regulator.  Was in the middle of a custom map and the tuner had to stop because he knew there was an issue with the fuel delivery.

Well, it looks like I have an answer.  It is a powercommander issue, kinda.

It has to do with the inherently "dirty power" that Suzuki has and the inability of the PWC to effectively deal.  Apparently, there is a large unstable ground differential between the battery and ECU (specifically the TPS).  This manifest itself via a “jumpy” TPS especially at higher RPMS.  This may or may not show up during a dyno session.  It “seems” to get worse as the engine temp is high for more than a few seconds.

I found this by running the GXSR1000 for a while on the dyno just to simulate drag conditions.  Then, after it got good and warm for an extended period, the PWC TPS reading would “jump” around.  During WOT, the PWC would show 100% - 70%-52%-100% all within a fraction of a second.

The work around is to cut the small black-white trace wire from the PWC battery ground (the larger ground wire is still attached) and wire it to the OEM TPS ground.  That particular ground is the “digital” ground for the PWC.  That forces the PWC to reference the same ground as the ECU/TPS.

The bike has been to the strip twice, ran numerous times, with no problems.

Just wondering what is the Best All around for 06-1000's {street and strip } setup, Like what {Pipe,filter,tuner/fueler ?} worked the best on the Dyno, and the Track ?
