What's Easier?
« on: August 16, 2010, 08:45:05 PM »
I have a 2001 Hayabusa and I'm trying to decide if I should buy a GenII crank for the extra 2mm or simply send my crank to Marine and have a 2mm stroke done. I've done a little research and it seems that if I go with the GenII crank there are other small changes I'll need to make. I'm thinking that a simple 2mm stroke on the GenI crank will be a little easier but I'm sure I'm missing some things. Input PLEASE!!

Well if you send yours out or a core, Dave takes awhile like 8 weeks atleast.. Or you can just buy a gen 2 online  and use your rods and pistons and a spacer plate, so not much down time.. You also want to get gen2 main bearings but you want to changed them anyway while your apart..

gen 2 has better oiling.

what other changes needed do you know of to run a gen 2?      I have one that I am planning to run. the only thing I know that needs changed is the bearings...

I've heard something about the starter clutch and the need to replace the sprocket for the cam chain (I think). I'll need to do more research into it to make sure.

Yeah the spline is a little different, but you can make the old one work with a dremel, its no big deal!! or buy a new one if your not a mechanic

Get the Gen 2 rods and pistons, they will give you more compression. You can usually find a set here for around 150$ used. Busa's love compression. :D
