Will a 2001 accept a 2003 ECU without a problem?
« on: August 24, 2010, 11:00:47 AM »
Looking at a 2001 gsxr 1000 project bike and it won't start. The injectors aren't getting pulse. 2001 bike with 2003 motor (2001 ecu). Any ideas?

yea the crank sensor is diffrent and I think the ECM's read the readings diffrent.

so you have to the same mod I did and put in a crank sensor and sprocket from a 01

problem is you can't get that sprocket off with out the front cam chain guide out the way

so you have to remove the head or break the bottom of the guild off

then set the gap to the 01 pick up to around .012"

Mine works great with an 06 engine in it now :)

I did put the 01 head back on it to save $$
Maybe this year?

It is possible to get it off, without removing the head. You just need to modify the guide a little bit on the bottom. Also remove the bolt to that extra bit of clearance

Here's a picture of my former setup with custommade rotor..

The wiring harness on the 01 and 02 has the pins in different places from the 03 and 04s. So a direct plug and play won't work. You have to replace the harness or find a wire diagram and move the pins around.

Pretty reliable.......

since that "mod" to the guide I have done about 5-7000 km's  (I'm in europe) of road riding, with no problems whatsoever...

I know it's not the right thing to do,but it's way easier doing it this way instead of removing the head..........

i removed the bolt sort of forced mine , left a slot where the trigger passed through but most of that section is still intact and working as usual ,
had no time to finish it off and i think i will convert to 06 so i can flash it ,
