First Post, New To Forums, Bike spun a rod bearing.
« on: January 22, 2011, 09:05:56 PM »
Alright guys, I am new to the forums, ride a 2001 gsxr 1000 stock motor I believe, does have a shortened yoshi rs3 exhaust and k&n filter.
I believe the other day my bike spun a rod bearing(everyone that I have talked to thinks so, Johnny Turbo being one, John Bush the other, along with a few friends and whatnot)
So I was wondering what you guys think, buy a new used motor swap it in and go or rebuild stock engine size(no bore or stroke over) I really liked the power the motor had and made before said bearing spun.
I actually dont want to spend 2000+ on the bike as it is an older bike and getting up into that range I can almost buy another bike that's newer you know?

Find a good used motor from a reputable seller, put it in and ride the thing.   Rebuilding what you have will get pricey.

You should see if you can find the cause of the failure, lack of service?, needed to be jetted due to the pipe and k+n?

buy a new motor and part your old motor out to get some of your money back.  Everyone wants that year motor cases.
