Installing New Front Pads

ATC'er:
Do the caliper pistons have to be pushed in so that the new pads fit over the rotors? The Suzuki repair manual doesn't mention it and I know I always have to do it when installing new brake pads on my cars.

Yes. I usually move the dust bellows back and clean the pistons before pushing them back to prevent dirt from possibly contaminating the seals. It is also a good opportunity to open the bleeders before pushing the pistons in and then continue to flush the whole front brake system.

Try doing it during a pit stop during an endurance race, on your hands and knees working on smoking-hot brakes as other bikes wheelie past you down the hot pit lane at 100 mph on their way back out onto the track, lol.  :lol:

screw changing the pads in that situation, id get some of the quick connects and just have another set of calipers ready to go.  unbolt the old ones, bolt the new ones on. pads and all
