Clutch noise
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:03:20 AM »
My Busa with 26K has developed what seems to be clutch noise at idle. I'm assuming it is the plates rattling in the hub from wear at the tabs but before I pull it apart has anyone else found plate replacement to be the fix or is it just as likely going to be hub wear?

Thanks!

Does it go away when the clutch lever is pulled in, if so only way to fix it in a new basket etc..inner hub..  The cover has that piece with 3 bolts to insulate the noise from the clutch/ engine

Pull the basket and check the springs on the backside of the basket. They are in effect, a cush drive to reduce teh torsional stiffness of the basket assembly. The "pockets" that retaing the springs often get worn / deformed.
Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

I run a Suzuki Service Center and as of late (last couple of years) we have had a rash of pressure plate bolts backing out..  Just pull the cover and take a peek..  It might be worth the look.

+1 if the springs are real loose you can "adjust" them.

I pulled mine apart and everything was within specs and nowhere near the wear limits. Maybe a low oil level was allowing the plates to rattle at idle. About 30k of street miles with 300+hp and the clutch still looks like new. Good design!
