Unusual nooise coming from the clutch area
« on: May 29, 2011, 08:49:06 AM »
Hello everyone, I'm hearing an unusual sound coming from the clutch area of my K8 when the engine is in nuetral with the clutch lever pulled in, I can also feel a tapping on the cover. There is no sound when the engine is in gear only when in neutral, could this be a bad clucth basket or could something be loose on the inside someone please help me out?
Don't be scared, twist the throttle, it's only a BUSA.

What he said.

If its out of warranty, pull the cover and bolts, degrease the bolts then reinstall with a little locktite and the correct torque.

There was a TSB for this. Check your VIN at your dealer to see if it is one of the effected VINs and it has been done.

hopefully they didn't cause any damage, if they shaved a little off the clutch cover i would flush the oil a few times, maybe even take the clutch apart if it makes you feel safer.

But other then that, perform the service bulletin on the clutch bolts, and you should be fine.

LOOSE BOLT/BOLTS; THEY SOMETIME BACK OUT: THERE ONCE WAS A TOPIC ON IT WITH THE GEN 1. WHEN U DO YOUR CLUTCH MOD, JUST USE SOME LOCKTITE AND TORQUE EVERTHING TO SPEC.

and the torque is 2 different numbers because it's two different parts the stud and the bolt w/washer have different specs. Just regular blue locktite and I did both studs and bolts... Mine came loose at 12k miles 4 out of 6 were loose and 2 were 1 thread from falling out. Really disappointed in suzuki for not doing a recall on this one!

The older you get do you notice you start chickening out way before the bike does

make sure everything is tight and you didn't break a tooth off the gear. there us no real need for a high volume gear.

Do your checks as per Wilphil69 suggested first.
When I first installed a hi vol gear (no longer running it, back to stock), there was a quite noticable rev dependent whining sound.
Close inspection fount a very minor flaw on one tooth of gear, cleaned it up and all good.

Golly, if its been this long maybe its not his clutch making noise, must be the Flux Capacitor out of alignment or poss corrosion in the time circuits ..............
