Age Old Question
« on: July 05, 2011, 10:24:05 PM »
What should i run my piston to head? Running a 1430 stock gen 1 rods and gen 2 crank race only. With the added base gaskets i have 2k out of the hole. i think a 44k  headgasket would be ok but i figured i should ask.

Also what to set my cams at. have web 395 's i think...i was gonna say 105 105 race only!

Did you clamp the block down when you checked deck?  I would run it .010 in the hole and .030 h.g.  and put the cams .395 you think?  if so 107/108..check P to V also to be safe.. .050 max min int/ .075 max min ex..  btw you don't want it out of the hole..never!! adj by base gasket

Find out exactly what intake and exhaust cams you have and post .Seems you have the Web 395 for intake side but you sure on that for the exhaust ? What about the headport - anything done to it?

Forgot, I don't know what you have under there already but it don't sound right . Like what's said above , clamp it and recheck and if still .002 above then add another .010 under the cylinder - then even recheck that and run a .030 H/G

The block surface explains the weirdness deck clearance thing and not knowing anything else think i'd put those cams in at

105 I- 108E incase it stays together along time then tune it and ride it hard. As you dial in the exhaust if it winds up at 109- leave it.

You could do 107In-110Ex but probably will run out a rpm and head. Not that there's a huge difference in those two different settings

Send me a note about the mph after getting it dialed in - i'd be interested in knowing. :thumb:

That's a loaded question - but a new OEM chain will be fine with any spring.

If it's been used much and direction of rotation gets lost when disassembled and in a basket i tell guys to toss them .

I buy mine from Vance and Hines - cost less for me that way vs OEM.
