Display shows wrong gear? common?
« on: July 18, 2011, 01:36:17 AM »
I was riding spiritedly tonight and when I was done, I noticed my display wouldn't show 3rd gear. The display shows 1-2-4-4-5-6. Sometimes it will flicker when im in 3rd and flash between 3 and 4. I did have the primary cover off the other day. I was going to do a gear swap but purchased the wrong gear. Could my problem be there? I've ridden 250 miles since then though, and it just started. I searched on here and couldn't find anything. The bike shifts fine and there is no other problems with the transmission.  Any ideas?? Sorry if this has been talked about before. It may also be noted that I have not done the rectifier recall yet. I know that sometimes funky voltages will mess up other electrical components. I'm from the if-it-aint-broke-dont-fix-it camp though, so the rectifier will stay on until it gives me issues.

Gear position sensor is acting up, my '08 does it every once in a while.

The gear position sensor is located under the clutch basket.

Check the plug for moisture or bad connection. Or next time you have the clutch out, check the sensor itself behind the basket...

The fish gets a good one in!  :tu

Mine did it a few times last year and I brought it up on here. Seems a few have seen this happen. However, I have not noticed it once yet this year.

Excellent news!  I love that indicator because I cannot tell the difference between 5th and 6th at 90mph unless I use that display.  If I find myself in 6th at that speed, I drop three gears and go from there if I really wanna pass someone.   :tu:
