BUSA OIL CHANGE
« on: July 25, 2011, 02:23:37 PM »
Did my oil change and decided to use the Mystic 4 stroke, 20w-50 synthethic purple oil. Man is it expensive! Anybody else tried it?

I have not but I have heard it was good!  How many miles on the bike when you put it in?  Also, did ya break the bike in hard or like a sissy.  Be honest.

LOL... I bought it  new in Macon Georgia and drove it straight to Savannah, Ga. at 80 to 90 mph. After the trip back home it has hit 11k to 12k rpms everytime out.  I love to hit around 130 to 160 mph everytime I ride. I have had it maxed out topend once. It now has 1600 miles on it. It's hard to ride fast around here because of the deer population. I just put the new oil in this past weekend. I am thinking of buying the device THAT takes the speed limiter off in 6th gear, would love to find a 220 mph speedo for it, 2011.

IMO, The absolute bestest way to break it in is to load the motor, and then unload it, time after time after time.  3500 to 9000+ and back to 3500 and keep doin' that in 2nd, 3rd and 4th.  5th and 6th are hard to do cuz yer goin' so fast.  I broke mine in that way for the first 75 miles and the bike screams.........and does not use a drop of oil.

Extended Wheelies are not necessarily good because they rob the bottom end of oil.  Depending on the motorcycle.   IMO.

Hi Pat. the reason I run the 20w 50 syn tethic is because of the way I ride. I dont get out and cruise much. Most of my ridding is from 20mph to 130 and then up to 185. If I did alot of cruising I would run a thinner oil. Even though the 20 50 puts more drag on the motor it gives the bike motor extra protection against  internal stress caused by agressive riding. Keep in mind this just my personal preference

Don't waste your time and money on a TRE. Depending on your weight you should break 190 out the crate. If you just gotta do it, go with ECU editing.

Rotella 15-40 for me.

Put 15k on my motor before the rebuild for turbo. The bearings were spotless, cylinder walls great, clutch held up great. I pulled the clutch at 8k to check it out and replaced 3 frictions, just because I was in there. At 15k it looked great when I did the motor.

Ran Rotella in my previous 4 busas.

Rotella is a good oil.  My former boss, drag racer Danny Johnson, (RIP), swore by rotella.

Your best oils hands down are group 5 synthetics (Red Line, Motul). Amsoil is good oil but is a group 4. Mobile 1 is crap, they say it's synthetic but it's hydrocracked petrolium (group 3)...Castrol synthetic is the same "crap" hydrocracked petrolium.

I sense that Duncan knows his oils.  Listen to what he has to say.  I believe what I am hearing comes from a man who has garnered a great deal of knowledge about lubricants over the years. :thumb:

if you drag race the choice isnt so obviously
synthetic this or that,i was running 5w/40 full
synthetic and the clutch would blue up and get hot spots
from the oils detergent levels.i switched to brad
penn10w40 with high zinc and low detergent levels
semi synthetic and the clutch looks much better and it shifts
a little better as well.the zinc levels are comforting for hard weld
cams as well.
