Short Stacks Install?
« on: October 03, 2011, 02:50:37 PM »
Does the air box on the GenII have to be removed in order to replace the stock velocity stacks with short GSX-R1000 stacks?

I have looked in the service manual but there is not a very definative graphic to answer my question.

Seems like it. I cant remember. FYI The shorties killed my bottom end and I swapped the stockers back in.

Thanks, yes they will do that.  I'm looking for top end only, a little help on the big end of the Texas Mile!

you will have to remove the airbox.  There is a sacrafice with all short stacks.  Dont do it not unless its an LSR bike or an all out track bike.

All short stacks installed and also swaped the throttle tube for an R1 which has a slightly shorter throw.
A couple hours work this evening and both were a pretty straight forward job.  :tu:

I'll start by adding +5 to all the STP 100% throttle cells above 8K rpm and then make adjustments based on my DL-32 data logs after each run.
I have a map from my previous Texas Mile runs on MR12 to start. I know that with the short stacks it will need a fair amount of tweeking.

09 Grey, what all did you do so far to your bike for the Texas Mile? I am trying to get mine together for next year... I have an 09 Grey & Silver Busa myself... I am trying to get over 200mph on all motor without going to extreme... I went 218 on my 05 by GPS but that was a big block motor. Dont think I wanna go that far with my 09. ;-)
