CARPENTER'S NEW STREET EXHAUST!!!
« on: January 21, 2012, 07:40:44 AM »
Carpenter Racing is excited to announce a new innovation in Suzuki Hayabusa performance exhaust systems – the InsideWinder

The InsideWinder is a state-of-the-art, 4-into-1 megaphone sidewinder exhaust system that fits inside the stock Hayabusa bodywork with no modifications required. In fact, the system fits on dead-stock Hayabusas of all model years. No special pans or cylinder head modifications are required.

And we can boldly state that this system makes more power than any Hayabusa street pipe on the market.

Bob Carpenter designed and built the first-ever sidewinder exhaust system in 1980 and in doing so, changed the face of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle drag racing to this day. Carpenter Racing continues to innovate with the all-new InsideWinder that works for both street and track applications.

“We have led performance innovations with the Hayabusa for years so it was obvious that we should offer a new performance exhaust system,” said Bob Carpenter. “We thought outside the box with this system and did something completely different from what is currently offered in the market.”

Photo is of pre-production prototype

Current exhaust systems use a stepped header size design to increase the pipe diameter. This design was developed as a way to fit a large-diameter pipe to the head but is not the way to make the most horsepower. Our large-diameter, 1-3/4 inch header pipes hold a consistent size from the cylinder head to the merged 4-into-1 collector. This allows us to get the most out of both a stock head and a head with a ported exhaust.

The results of this new engineering are impressive. “We have gained 3.5 horsepower over the next best pipe in the market on a stock head,” said Carpenter. “Our system can also take advantage of a more aggressive exhaust port. On a ported head we gain nine horsepower over their pipes. Their stepped designs cannot take true advantage of a ported exhaust port like ours can.”

The InsideWinder system is constructed entirely of stainless steel and is available in polished or brushed finishes. The long megaphone has a removable 3” diameter muffler core. All fittings and mounting hardware are included.

Does it clear 2" oil pans? By the look in the photo it doesn't seem like it would.

Ask Carpenter

If it's in a truck or trailer, it's being stolen

He also appears to do a sidewinder on his website but no individual price just a package price.

Who has used his systems in drag racing vs Brock sidewinders and how does it compare?

At the moment im biased to a brock system as they are proven and used in Australia. Have only seen vance & hines in oz to compare.

it would be interesting to see a torque curve printout of the insidewinder 4 into 1 versus say a brock 4 into 2 into 1 pipe to see the average torque values.Average numbers beat peak numbers.

.....and, with any luck, it's all in the headers.
Would be good if it had a nice long exhaust stack like the Brocks/Hindle Streetsmart 3 System.
They would sell a lot better as would not attract attention from our Highway Patrol Officers.
Ozzie coppers don't like short exhaust stacks :id:

Ookay, i thought that Yngve must be some Scandinavian. Is there lots of busariders in that area ? I have visited couple times Mo i Rana motor raceway when driving that direction, there seems to be some bikes, they were having some practise sessions.
And what do you think, there was some time ago in Rovaniemi "World´s Northernmost Power Shootout for Bikes" as it was advertised, just under arctic circle, would that be exact ? I thought maybe in Canada or Alaska would have their own happenings, or even in Siberia, nobody knows what happens there

So, do you know anything about Carpenters insidewinder ?  :D

When Hayabusa was released in 99 the Norwegian importer ordered 50. 11 of those came to my small town !!!!!!! ( we are around 18000 here ). I have been at ACR many times the last few years. Even riding my Busa on the track. I have also been to Kemora and Virtasalmi ( Motopark ) in Finland with my Hayabusa.
A friend of mine owns a dyno in Alta so we have the worlds northenmost power shootout every week :) ( I live further north than any mainland Alaska or Canada that has Bikes on the road ).

Don't know anything about the Carpenter other than I heard a rumor that it was "delayed".  Maybye Knecum can say anything about it ?

I dont know what I am talking about but I do know that I am right :)

Thank you for solving out this matter. I thought also it would be just what i was looking for. Now have to find some big exhaust which goes under motor. I had HMF big bird before, it was ok.

My guess is that it depends on what standard you are using measuring power. Dynojet`s own STD might be most optimistic, SAE gives less and, what we use here, DIN gives even less. Just take the bike to LSR event and see what numbers comes up. Karl had Carpenter engine package and i think it was pretty fast.
