Powder coating cases?
« on: February 09, 2012, 10:46:27 PM »
I am building a new turbo engine for the salt. I have had issues with salt corrosion of my motors in the past. You just cant wash all the salt off, inevitably there will be a pocket you miss causing pitting.

I was wondering if anyone has ever powder coated their cases?

I have had other items (intercooler, plenum ect) coated with great results.

I know the B-King has black cases.....is this paint or powder?

Any thoughts pro or con?

Yeah, it will hold in some heat.....but I am only going 4 miles and only the last will be spooled. I have done temp test on the cases after a run and they are barely warm (most places).
Heat is so far the only thing I can think of why 'not'.

I dont think powder is for everyone, especially if you are running distance.

I believe Christer Johanson (sp?) had a set of cases anodized at one time.

Another member here coated the cases white for a show bike (unit176 maybe?). Not sure if it was wet or powder.
Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

It was 176, and if I remember correctly it was powder
The older you get do you notice you start chickening out way before the bike does

if looks aren't a huge concern why not just spray the troubled areas with an aluminum heat resistant sealant like Corr-Paint™?  prolly the easiest and least expensive solution and something you could do.

salt bike why not?

powder coating cases could be done fairly easy. good paint would also hold up...anodizing would not help with the corrosion as much as paint or powdercoat would
