Crank with damaged journal; boat anchor or strokeable?
« on: February 19, 2012, 11:02:49 AM »
I have a crank with some dings on the #3 journal after loosing a rod (also rod 2&4 got warm). I dont understand the process of what they do when they "weld up" a crank to stroke it.

I was considering getting a weld up crank to do a 1535cc motor.
Would this crank be a good candidate to have stroked or should I start with an undamaged unit.

Thanks~

perfect candidate.  send it to David at Marine, he magnaflux it to assure no cracks, then do whatever you want with it.
Often wrong, but never unsure!!!!!

Yes it is good, as long as all of the mains are in good condition and the spline is not twisted or bent too bad.
