A friend is having major issues with keeping rod bearings in his 1k.He has replaced cases and crank due to rod exiting case last time ,It was #3 .It has stock crank, carillo rods, je turbo pistons and new oil pump and hv gear and h-pressure reg. Mains look great each time just tears up the rods all the time even with low boost at track. Any suggestions Please. Thanks

1000s just plain suck. and are time bombs... make sure your not caveating the oil with that hv gear.. I never use them, only high relief valve..  Break down and put a billet crank in it and you can race it forever..  The bearings are so small and weak.. When you build a race car you use aftermarket race bearings.. well we don't have that choice.  which sucks.. First comes fatigue overlay of the top layer.. then goes the bearing..  Billet cranks have different oiling which help this flaw in Japanese cranks..

you can get "special bearings" too  shouldnt need to though..they are just coated factory bearings anyways, so like an over priced peice of metal imo.  oil mod in the cases,  correct bearing clearances, (running a little tight on the rods imo)  high pressures relief valve, and proper weight oil is the best thing you can do.  for oil i recommend 300v with ZDDP additive. you shouldnt have any problems from it like that.

Yeah you can use the coated. Lmk I have them in stock.  But with everything mentioned sooner or later you will still hurt it..its just a matter if you catch it before major damage happens. I'm doing something different and have one engine out there with a mod that may help with it ..Lyk if it works

1000's are a different animal but can be made to live. They like rods as loose as you can get them and never use blockoff plates. Our prostreet champ here, runs mid 7's all season long.I have seen his spare engine sit for many a season. :thumb: :thumb:

I just put in the thin shells, Brown.

I had black bearings and the high Volume gear and had sick looking bearings every year.

Now OEM gear no issues.
Maybe this year?

Aren't the thinnest ones the green ones?

Sorry going by memory so could be.

I don't have the book in front of me.

I know I used the black then went to the thinest.

Had to be Green then
Maybe this year?

Do you have your rod journals fluted as well? Like on the 03-04's crank journals.

Right now I use an 06 crank but 01-04 rods

I haven't done anything extra to a crank ever.

I had to modify the timing chain sprocket to get it to work but that was it.
Maybe this year?

You left the counterbalancer gear on too?

Yes I always leave the counter balancer shaft in.

I heard it helps build the torque.

I may remove it and the hump on my drag bike project.
Maybe this year?
