Looks like they are all already on here.
Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

it says no exit speeds...that is what the pavement tracks have
132 ft exit speeds........

Bonneville speeds are avgs maintained for 40 times the distance or 5280 ft....to do that
it occurs on slippery salt.......

the 1 and 1.5 mile track speeds are amazing in their own right at reaching them in such
as short run up...!!!

its like combining all the fastest car speeds from 1/4 mile traps and trying to compare them to
Bonneville speeds maintained for a mile or more...tremendous accomplishments in each venue
with their own specific challenges..

A trap speed is a trap speed right? If its the last trap of the coarse would that be the exit trap speed...??? 1 mile racing only has 1 trap, should there be 2 ? IDK just asking ..I honor all that travel and risk there lives at high speed in any venue..car or bike!!  Respect it.!! i know that much!!

Joe, I consider my speeds entrance speeds, it just happens we run out of track and are entering into shut-down.

Sounds like our local dragstrip...I don't like going over about 178 there, shutdown comes up pretty quick. They put in 1000ft speed traps now, makes it nice to add 300ft of shutdown.

The "new" half mile formats should prove interesting. more of a blend from the mile to the dragracing tactics.

In one venue when you get up to speed you shut down other venue when you get up to speed the race begins

I think we all agree maintaining speed for a least a mile is much different than averaging a speed over 132 feet

and conditions and distances getting there much

I don't think many understand the difference in maintaining engines traction speed handling for 3 to 5 miles on slippery salt versus 1 to 1.5 and others may not fully understand how to slowdown in such a short distance on pavement

Geeze even Siri didn't understand what I was saying I guess I don't know what that Chinese writing is on there I'm just driving across the state and trying to jot things down probably not the wisest thing

I'm in all of what folks are doing on those paved tracks and what folks do and endure at Bonneville since Maxton started all this out I hated comparing , folks trying to compare the two

Yes your right that its different to maintain it for that mile only because you have to.. I actually have done both and prefer to hold it wide open for the shorter speed trap.. I mean engines aren't designed to be just held WOT for ever. You have to consider whats going on downstairs in the engine compartment and reach your desired speed  a.s.a.p and shut her down before she blows.

Tom,

I hope you aren't saying that if somebody owns a bike and has somebody build the engine and then someone else rides it that it doesn't mean anything.  You aren't saying that, are you?

If you are then I have a dog in this hunt.  I started LSR at the tender age of 57.  I got serious at the age of 60 and had Steve build me an engine because I can't learn everything he knows in the 20 or so years I may have left.  When I can no longer ride I hope I can find someone who will enjoy riding my bikes as much as I do.  Simple as that!

Tom, you have a lot to be proud of.  261 is definitely saying something and to do it all yourself.  Well good for you.  But, please don't criticize those of us that don't have the knowledge to build a winning engine or who can no longer ride.

You know whats real amazing though??, not taking anything from anyone.. Is that the track record is 253mph, and we set the N/A record at 252mph with a bike that has less then half the h.p.  Just goes to show you that almost all of the turbo guys are putting way to much boost in it.  Maybe this yr we will put one of those things called a data logger on it, and maybe a power commander 5!!

+1

250+ MPH normally aspirated is equally impressive as 311 MPH blown in regards to engineering and aerodynamics in my book.

True the bike is slippery.. The Charlie Toy suff was a sail, but we did go 251 on spring pressure with that stuff on our turbo bike, but the tail wasn't like the Guppys.. I'm guessing around 260 hp

Scott,
GREAT bunch of information in this thread, i am glad you built on what came before and posted it.

Amazingly, there is NO FACTORY SUPPORT in any of it.  All "privateers"

Amazingly, racers routinely give (not loan) needed parts to their direct competitors, then help them repair the bike.

Amazingly, ALL the riders, wrenches, owners have full time jobs to support their passion; there is NO prize money.

Race Director at Loring(2011):
"Bill Warner, you have just completely obliterated  the top speed record for a sit on motorcycle taking it from 278 to 311mph; here is your hat.

Race Director at WOS (2010):
"Mark DeLuca, you have just completely obliterated  the top speed record for an all motor motorcycle taking it from 230's?? to 252mph; here is your hat."

Pawn Shop Owner in San Antonio:
"Mr Vance, you have an impressive collection of rather unique red hats, we'll give you $15 for all 10 of them"

Obsessed men in their brilliantly lit garages, silently working night after night, building and developing these incredible machines.

I feel greatly privledged to belong to this tribe of wonderful people.

Karl

BTW:
Our close knit family is not all "hearts, flowers, and little yellow butterflies", we have lil internal squabbles from time to time.
There is generally no Dad to step in and say "you kids cut that out right now"; we solve our own issues.

However, I did witness daddy Joe Timney do exactly that to Ali and the starter at maxton a couple years ago; walked em off into a field, asked em shake hands and said , "i want you guys work it out now or you both go home".  I don't think they swapped spit, but they came back talking & smiling.

note:  a fabulous prize to the person who can identify where the reference to "little yellow butterflies" comes from.
