genII busa's sudden loss of power
« on: June 28, 2012, 10:27:00 AM »
Hello guys I and several other have come across several genII busa's that for no reason lose power from time to time.
Everything has been checked all the way down to barrings to swaping out head cams compression done.  All the normal and above normal things too like swaping ecu's sensors and the like. I was wondering with all the tuners on this site has anyone found a solution to this issue.   I've seen it mention several times on this site also but no resollution was give.

clutches have been changed electronic have been swaped.
air fuel is spot on cam timming , cam chain , leak down done.

Please if anyone has found a solution let us know.

Vince, when you say loss of power, what do you mean? did the bike slow down at the track or were you riding down the street and it felt like a ninja 250?

slowed down at the track.  I've talked to others that seem to have the same issue.
I took it to the dyno and it was down 10hp but air fuel was correct.  Seems like something that controls timming might be the issue .
where are you at nowdays.  haven't seen you in awhile.

As I posted in the past my buds  08 1441 would drop 3-4 mph and up to .2 in ET for NO reason ,checked and rechecked everything and once in a while power would come back and not a thing was done to bike. He could tell just by the way it would leave the line if it was down on power or not. Never found out what it was and he sold bike.

Im in phoenix. got tired of the communist country of california.

as for your issue. start monitoring density altitude. it plays a huge role with an aspirated bike. our bike will slow down that much in the summer. winter time the DA will be 1500 give or take and the last few races we have been anywhere from 3800 to 4500 depending on temp and humidity. keep in mind these numbers are here in the desert.

thanks busabd we talked on the phone.
You were a great guy to talke to.  Chris I've slowed down at barona many times this is just as busa bd said it will come back on the same day its low so DA is not the issue.  Also BusaBD said he's seen others also with the same issue its just when they get a fix they never report it.

The DA is what Carpenter told him too. But it was no more than 500ft diff when power was lost.Checked on a dyno and it was verified of the loss(Same dyno not same day)

the saecondary throttle plates operate based on gear position, tps, and engine rpm.  They are map-able with ecu editor.

Is it not true the secondaries work off vac um. Just a thought and has anyone checked that. ????

the secondary throttle plates operate based on gear position, taps, and engine rpm.  They are mappable with ecu editor.

So they work electronic.

took bike to dyno tuesday turned off HOX and TOS bike hp came back.  don't no if it will stay but looking good.  Next track day is 14th so I'll see what happens.

Bike is genII with a 8 over strech only made 188 hp but thats back to were it was before.  For some reason with the HOX and TOS on it was running rich.  I don't think the TOS had anything to do with it I just turned it off anyway.

and in theory O2 sensor shouldn't have anything to do with it either as its only for part throttle low rpm adjustments.  At WOT it shouldn't be referencing the O2 sensor anyhow.

You are right sir its only for part throttle epa gas stuff .   But as all else was tried I gave it a shot and it seem to have worked.  I won't know though till it stays working as in the past it has come and gone.
Does 188hp seem ok for this year bike.

I know its late but better late than pregnant.
The answer to the problem was fuel pump and filter
