Gen II motors - any changes?

Hi there,

I'm looking for advice from the guru's....

I've just blown up my K8 motor and am looking to replace it. Was there any changes to the motors (wiring/ECU etc.) between 2008 and 2012? Could I just get a newer motor and fit it straight in?
