World Of Speed: a HUGE thank you to Larry Forstall!!
« on: September 12, 2012, 08:15:35 AM »
After last year's evil handling salty debacle, I was in the dumps, but Larry never wavered.

A year of Larry's persistent encouragement and never ending stream of technical tips culminated in Bob Sellers running 225 on a 221 record on my RustBucketRoller.

Lots of people contributed, some were key (i'm not going to mention Ryan Ostergard's or Fred Vance's name here), but Larry is at the core.

Larry,
thanks for making a dream come true :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Your friend,
Karl

Congrats Karl & Bob, well deserved success.  :thumb:

Karl left out the part about competing in a fuel class with a NA gasoline engine. Just a little detail.

Must have been the leathers, they only know FAST !! Karl put the engine together and in the bike by himself (one-handed) and then took it to super tuner J.C . The bike was ready. Bob Sellers had been to the Salt to help others but had never rolled a wheel under power. Under marginal conditions he worked his way to a record setting performance with great riding on a great bike (even if it is green ). It is a once in a lifetime feeling when the time is announced to the tow vehicle which then speeds to the rider to share the joy. Enjoy guys, you earned it.  :tu:   LSL

[quote

My only regret with both Greenie and RBR is that i wasted 9 long years developing my ZX12 before turning to the Busa.

I spent many, many $10's of thou$and$ getting the 12's NA motor to the absolute maximum it could make (low 240's);

and after all that work...

A seriously built Zx12 (and the Zx14) was still about 15MPH SLOWER THAN THE BUSA. :hys: (joke is on me)
Karl

That hurt, Karl.     But sometimes the truth hurts even when it comes from your Bud!!

You've had a great year Karl, big improvement over last year for sure.
Congratulations for building a couple incredible machines & providing your riders with awesome bikes. You & Bob done GREAT!

I ain't deleting your quote from my post, everything you said was honest!

Truth is Kawasaki's one piece case/cylinder does make it tough to compete and the frame design makes it even slower when the speeds get REALLY fast.

Now showroom stock is another matter, Kawasaki done good with the 14R for sure.  :tu:

Nobody loves Zx12's more than me and you are right about the complexity of working on one and the limitations in N/A power and I would be the first to admit that the Busa platform is easier to make fast and importantly the parts to do it are feely available from lots of sources, unlike Zx12s but when you go the turbo route once you overcome the intake design you can get similar power and reliability on what remains a 1200 cc motor.
Once I iron out a few things like stopping I can see me cracking 240mph without any further development to become the fastest UK Kawasaki which might be enough for a while  :tu:
I just don't have the same affection for the 14r although it is a better showroom bike, don't know why, maybe I just have to do it my way
