2 LSR questions
« on: September 19, 2012, 12:52:22 PM »
Do I need metal valve stems to run legally in LSR, mainly Texas.

What gearing do I need for 235mph in a mile?

Thanks in advance.

Yes for metal valve stems in the ECTA and LTA.

For gearing; before I could suggest anything, I would need to know details about the bike including some HP peak numbers.

Not that far yet, but for conversation we'll say 330 HP with a 190/50 tire, stock geared transmission.

20-40 or 19-38 will get you there at a titsch over 11,000rpm

yr gonna have to spray the house down in early gears/all gears to do it! :thumb:

Hmm?  I come up with 19/39 @ 11000+    But if you are spraying, you ain't going to get to 235 with 330 wHP unless you have a hurricane on your tail.   Your peak HP will probably occur around 10K and then fall off after that and probably be around 315 wHP at 11K.

after years of using speed-rpm-gearing calculators, i find i need to take right at 4% off the measured circumference to get a speed which matches traps.
thus the 19/38.

obviously, a trip to the dyno to document hp curve is essential! :D

I got ya. I was just throwing out a number to shoot for. I may make 350hp, and I may only go 225??
I now have an 18t front, and an assortment of rears, from 37, to 43.
I may try 18/37 and see where it gets me.
The last 2 nitrous bikes I had kept climbing HP wise to around 12,000rpms. Of course, the Tq dropped off.
With all of that gear taken out of the bike, I should be able to start spraying in 1st gear, maybe just not real heavy till 2nd.

set up JC dyno to run yr bike at constant 10500 under load, see if the 2 x 2.5's will last 20 sec or so...

Sleeperbusa,

When I ran 225 at Goliad, I had 19/38 on it and I was at 10,720 going thru the trap. I had it on 16 psi which was around 330hp(depending on the pull)...

Now keep in mind I didn't know what I was doing really and I wasted the first 1/4 mile of the track just babying the throttle...  I could have made better use of the given real estate and with my extended rev limiter I now have I am sure it would have ran 228-230 on the same boost level...

Point being is, I doubt 330hp is going to get you 235mph unless you can efficiently put the power down and quick... Not to mention squeezing your svelt body behind the windscreen..

I assume you have one of Bobs monster motors now eh?

No Alan, I have one of Karl's monster motors and a wet kit.  :hys:

Honestly, I don't have an exact number that I am going for. I want to go over 200 on MY bike. Going 200 on Karl's was such an accomplishment, but as everyone knows, we always want more.
I want to go faster than 208.6, and I want to do it on MY bike.
I've lost 50 pounds, and I'm not gonna quit loosing till after the next 50.  :tu:

Losing weight is the cheapest horsepower you can get. Save money on food too. We used to figure 10lbs=1hp. And you feel better. truly a win win deal. Keep up the good work Chris. :thumb:

WOW...

Congrats both on losing weight and getting the big motor.... THat is just your style for sure.  Are you going to street ride it as well?

We really need to hook up for one of our old street rides.... A buddy of mine moved to Louisiana, maybe on my next trip over to see him, we can ride.... :thumb:

I have a new phone number(about a year old actually but...), I'll text it to you...

When I said one of Karl's motors, I meant he built mine, not one of his BIG motors.
I wish!!

Send me your number, I called a couple of times and you didn't return the call. I figured you just didn't love me anymore.
